Yellow light in tach...

Yesterday morning I was going to work about 5:15 on a country road. It was dark of course, and I was running about 70 when I saw a dead animal in my lane, could have been a large coon, by the time I saw it I had to swerve really hard left trying to miss it. I saw a yellow light come on for just a moment in the tach. It flashed on the off so quickly I don't know what it was, any ideas.
BTW my car is a 2006 Z4 3.0 auto.

Did it look like this?

If so that is the DSC light going on and intervening so that you don't crash or spin out.

It could have been that, it didn't stay on long, just a flash, and I was kinda busy steering. It most likely was that cause I swerved HARD trying to miss it, didn't quite make it though.
Thanks to both replies

As the others said it was the traction warning - that's why it went out after you regained control

Easy test, punch it from a stop, or find a big open parking lot and try cranking the wheel at speed.

You'll see the light again if you do and it might be familiar

Garage List
just turn traction control off, light will come up in the dash indicating its off just below the 5k. If it was in that area then that's it.

I'm surprised this is the first time you've seen the light. Mine comes on almost every single time I make a left turn.

This makes me wonder, what's the difference between DTC and DSC on our cars?

I had to look that one up

Seriously though, it's kinda crazy trying to turn onto main roads around here. They're all narrow winding country roads with blind curves and very few traffic lights. Overgrown meadow grass creeps right up to the side of the road which obstructs any view you might have when making turns. The sand/salt mix that tends to linger on roads all year-round doesn't help with traction either.

EDIT: Just noticed you are from Atlanta. I used to live off Spalding Dr. in Sandy Springs. It's kinda like that over here except even more trees and overgrown brush on the side of the road, narrower roads, and of course the sand/salt mix. I basically DILYSI every time I make a turn out of my neighborhood. Oh, and my tires are at 4/32" which probably doesn't help either.

There's also a light for low washer fluid. It can be triggered by a hard swerve if the level is low enough and the swerve is hard enough.

DSC is the overall system that keeps you on the road. DTC is a function inside DSC.

DTC is basically the wheelspin portion and if you are driving in the snow I guess its nice to turn it off. :

Here is a very detailed post:

I grew up off Spalding Drive

Now I live down near Emory and work in Sandy Springs....

Yes- I noticed in Boston drivers are very aggressive when exiting streets. They pull right in front of oncoming cars no matter if there is room, or not.
