Tire Advice Please!

Hey guys, I'm looking for advice on tires and yes I did some reading already. I'm looking to replace the OEM runflats with UH performance all-seasons. Even though I drive my 07 Si only in warmer months, I'm looking for UH all-season instead of max summer tires due to longer ware, is this a correct assumption?

So the Micheline Pilot Sports, the BFG g-force, and the Continental DWS 06 all have great reviews. I'm leaning away from the Pilots due to cost, but I'll listen to all advice points. I'm not a track guy but I do drive on the aggressive side.

btw, this link is the tire rack survey results. Thanks!

I like my new Michelin Pilot Super Sports. Previously, I had Hankook Ventus V12's on the car. I think they are a little less costly but still a respectable tire. And I think there is new version of the Hankook with improved performance characteristics.

Super Sports were a fantastic tire in the dry and wet, only reason I moved on was that I needed something more aggressive for the track.

Super sports are not all seasons, which is what OP wants

right, I'm under the impression that super sports wear out faster and are a little stiffer. I'm looking for performance tires, but also want comfort and longer wear. Thats why I'm looking for ultra high performance all seasons. If you guys think I still can get what I'm looking for in Max summer category (which I think the super sports are), please let me know.

Thats why I mentioned Micheline Pilot Sports, the BFG g-force, and the Continental DWS 06.

I dont have a z4, but for a point of reference I picked up Michelin Pilot Sports AS3+ for my mini cooper. I had all weather tires on it before that were pretty much done. Once i put the tires on it was like night and day. They perform very well in wet and dry. It has reduced a lot of body roll from the on ramps i take. Ive only used them for about 500kms though. Also they are pretty quiet. Only thing that is weird to me is i feel like im floating. I hope that helps.

I got the Continental ExtremeContact DW back in October 2015 and they are still going strong for me. I like the feel of them a lot as well. I would buy another Continental tire in a heartbeat! I have also had really good luck with General in the past (for a quality budget tire)

I replaced my run flats when I bought my Z4 with the Coni DWS 06 EC and was very happy with them. They changed the whole car coming from those damn run flats. The rears wore fast (30K or so), but was probably the set up as the fronts were still fine.

I replaced the rears with the Pilot Sport A/3 3+ just recently. I have only had them on a few hundred miles and my conti's were shot - but I am a michelin fan and since the price difference was not there like it was when I bought the Conti's - I went back to them.

Can't speak bad about either of them - they served their tour very well and I did drive them in the rain, but not snow. No complaints from me.

There is no doubt that replacing the run flats will improve the car immensely.

Re use of an all-season tire, to be certain, I'd talk to the guys at Tire Rack over the phone to hear what they have to say. I know that for a dedicated winter tire, it typically uses a rubber compound that is softer than a summer tire; that allows it to have reasonable grip in cold weather. But in summer conditions, it wears quickly owing to the warm ambient temperature and softer rubber. I'd expect that an all-season tire, having to perform in both warm and cold temperatures, may use a rubber compound that is based on a compromise. Based on that, I think the best performing (and lasting) tire for non-winter use really ought to be a summer tire that is designed for those conditions. But hey - listen to what the gang here say but also ask the experts and check the tire wear numbers available on Tire Rack.

Cheers!!

They also have an online chat with the same representatives that is easier for people in an office setting (like me) and I use that feature

Well said. Unless I'm driving over 30K+ a year, long wear won't be on the top of my list. Tires are the only thing keeping me on the road, so I would want the best possible grip for the driving condition above anything else. Longer wear tires usually means less grip, which means longer braking distances, etc. Just FYI...All-seasons doesn't necessarily equates to longer wear

agreed longer wear isn't my main concern, overall performance is, followed by comfort.

fyi - tire rack rep said performance all seasons last longer than max performance summer. so the pilot sport would last longer than the super sport, for ex.

I put on the Conti DWS 06 last fall for the same reasons you mentioned. I am completely satisfied with them and would buy again in a heartbeat. They were a great deal from Discount Tire Direct, plus Continental had a rebate. In fact, I think there is another 4th of July sale going on now.

I went with these Coopers - http://us.coopertire.com/Tires/Perfo...EON-RS3-A.aspx . Probably not real popular among enthusiasts but very good tires reasonably priced and have worn extremely well. They also make a performance/summer tire in same line. Most are made in USA as well. Currently running Coopers on three vehicles with no plans to switch brands.

I was closing to pulling the trigger on the DWS but after a rebate from Michelin the cost was the same, so I went with the pilot sport. Getting them mounted Monday, so we'll see if the hype is real

I'm a big fan of Michelin Pilot Super Sports. I have them on all my BMWs. Over the years I've tried a few other brands on the M5 (and the Z4M originally came with Contis) and keep coming back to PSS (or PS2 before PSS was released). When the Pilot Sport 4S comes in more 18" sizes I'll use that for the coupe and the M5. Although I don't need all-season tires, if I did I'd go for Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+.

Just installed Bridgestone R71's and love 'em. Just normal driving, and couple of track events a year. They were pricey though.

If on a budget go with Conti DWS. If you got coin to spend I like the Michelin AS3's.

The Coopers are a decent 2nd tier tire and they're fine for street driving, but if you're pushing the limits they'll give up long before the Conti's or Michelin's
