3.0si with 3.0i emblems?

Was looking at a used 2007 3.0si roadster this week as a possible purchase. Car has 18,500 miles and is listed as a one owner car, verified by carfax. The two emblems on the front fenders are 3.0i emblems, which means they have been tampered with somehow.

The VIN # for this car also verifies that it is a 3.0si and it has all the extras that go with the si model. Anyone venture a guess as to why this vehicle is wearing 3.0i emblems? The carfax shows no accidents. The dealer has no idea. The only thing I can come up with is that this car was in an accident, and the bodyman put the wrong emblem back, or lost one of the "s" pieces. I have not seen the car in person to check for a possible repaint.

Maybe a thief only wanted the S's and was nice enough to leave the i's behind.

My bet is that the car WAS in an accident and was repaired and repainted, but the repair guy did not know the difference between a 3.0i and a 3.0si.

Have the car properly inspected by a trusted shop. Just because the carfax records do not indicate an accident, that does not guarantee that there wasn't one.

My thinking exactly. Carfax and Autocheck are no where near 100% reliable when it comes to accidents. No other explanation makes sense. There is no space where the "s" should be, so it is not a matter of them falling off in a carwash.
