minimal dust brake pads: favorites

anyone?

also does anyone have an opinion: do drilled rotors emit more/less/about the same amount of brake pad dust?

Akebono Euro ceramic pads are virtually dustless. I've used them on my E36, E46 and the E85 with equally clean results. I've done dozens of auto crosses with them and they perform well there, but they're not quite up to track day duty. They'll get you through a PDX session but you'll have a pretty fair amount of fade after the first 4-5 laps.
WRT drilled vs. solid rotors, I've run both and even slotted/drilled and haven't seen the rotor really make any difference in the amount of dust with ceramic street pads. The slotted rotors might have created a bit more dust when I had the Hawk Street/Race pads on but those are pretty soft, dusty pads anyway.

Agreed...I have Akebono Euro ceramic pads on the front and Cool Carbon on the rears and the Akebono, by far, dust less than the Cool Carbon. And the Cool Carbon dust much less than Stock.

Had Cool Carbons on the E46 before I switched to the Akebonos. Same experience. The Cool Carbons were really pretty dirty pads.

Regarding ceramic pads, my wife's SRX came with Ceramic pads and they had very weak initial grab, never really thought anything about it. When i put new pads on my Son's tC, we used Ceramic as well and they had the same weak initial bite. So at this point I a bit weary of ceramic pads. The Lack of Dust is GREAT but I REALLY like the initial grab on the Z4M stock pads. I'm considering Carbotech Bobcats, I really liked them for autocrossing on my STi

Subbed. I had two-piece rotors and hot-rod pads on my STi and 'learned to love' the dust from them; it was a straight up trade, bite was high and so was the dust. But I swear this car is nearly its equal dust-wise. I'm new to the car but given its history I'm assuming it has factory pads and boy do they throw dust.

Cool carbons are very dusty, but they have a wonderful feel. Not sure it is worth it, but I'll stick with them for now.

I've had akebono pads on my 3.0si for 2 or so years. They barely dust but I have spongy feeling that I can't get rid of. It is a more progressive feel so less initial bite than oem. I'm running ate super blue and have ss brake lines.

Here's a link that might help

I too had an STi prior to my Z4m. I ran Carbotech's XP8's for track and 1521's for daily use. Your right, the Stock Z4M pads throw as much dust as the XP8 track pads. But I do love the initial bite on the stock Z4 pads. I don't track this vehicle so i'm a few years out from new pads but I am thinking about trying the Carbotech 1521's. I liked them on the STI for autocrossing and the Z4M is a hundred lbs or so lighter. My estimation is that the 1521's will have the same bite with less dust.
