Hit a curb; at least there was good news -

On my commute this week in a low lit area at 530 am, made contact with the RR at a curb and cut the sidewall....parked it and waited for the flatbed tow truck (make sure your OEM screw-in tow hook-eye is still in your trunk - mine was there)....replaced both rear tires due to 25,000 miles wear and most importantly to begin with equal tread depth to keep the differential happy....

Learned my car insurance covered the flatbed towing costs and my $26 tire insurance purchased at Discount Tire 2.5+ yrs ago reduced my $181 damaged tire cost considerably....a very minor rim rash to the OZ Ultralegerra that will will be repaired next week....then to Alignments Plus for a 4 wheel laser alignment.

Stay away from immovables....

All good news. I had my second pothole-induced irreparable flat in four months last weekend on my wife's ZHP. I guess this is going to be a regular occurrence now that I've moved to LA. I bought the insurance with the tires this time. Just glad the rim wasn't cracked. And thank goodness for AAA.

I was considering filing a claim with CalTrans but decided against it. I figured it would just be a ton of effort and I'd be insanely pissed off when they inevitably denied my claim.

Stupid potholes. Good for inducing serious spontaneous cussing. Don't do suspension/alignment a bit of good either. I hit one once that cut the sidewall but think my tire was under inflated. I take same route to work and back and think I have every bump in my memory. Sorry to hear of your misfortune.

Another two tires today on my commuter car due to a pothole. I thought I was having bad luck but I guess it's just life in LA.
