~46 lbs.

So racing type seats; 80lbs for both?

Braille battery, 30 lbs?

Aftermarket exhaust, 40 lbs?

A/C 50 lbs?

So, maybe possible to get under 3,000 lbs?

That's a decent loss - thanks for the great data. Do you have pictures of the process and the aftermath? I want to keep it all there but see if there is space around the subwoofer for a custom rollbar.

Because all the minimal things add up. You are using the wrong criteria.

You should be asking :

Is it bolted down ? Will the car still run with out ? yes/yes... good pull it.

The Z4M Grand Am car my friend had in 2008 weighed 2900 lbs and that was with anywhere from 50-100 lbs added to it to keep it 2900 - sanctioning body requirement. That was obviously with a roll cage, fire suppression system, dry sump oil system, and cool suit stuff. IF you really want to gut one, lightness is definitely achievable.

Not looking to really gut one; but a couple hundred pounds is about the same as adding 20 HP. Add braking and handling and even MPG benefit.

I'd rip the system out too, if I didn't enjoy the music so much!

Now you have a great location for a gauge pod -where nav. screen was
-Can watch the boost rise as well as feel it .
-I'm trying to figure our where to mount a boost gague -mounted the ft.splitter yesterday but waiting for my S/C to arrive and install before putting the bumper back on9hopefully next weekend.

Did you add anything back in afterwards (IE headunit or speakers?)

I'm about to put my old girl on a diet once I decide to cut her up for a roll bar, it's amazing how much difference weight makes yet many often overlook it. I've always been one to gut my cars in areas where people least expect it (IE shave foam off the underside of carpet, undercoating removing on the interior, lighter seats, etc).

Me: Shame we are not closer to Cave Creek, AZ.
Her: Why?
Me: I could swap out my dash and get the built in NAV installed from someone there from the forum. Cost would be well worth it.
Her: Thankfully we are not closer to Cave Creek AZ.

I can see what you mean, but 46 pound is significant in my book and the dieting is not finished yet

That is goal. I'm not ready to part with the A/C yet. That will be the last to go. I will try to make up for that weight in other areas.

I will post photos up soon. There is a ton of wasted space under the platic sills below the small rear windows. There is a flat spot there that would be good for mounting a cage, but access for welding would be tight. Might work for bolt in though.

Good to know we can get them that low. I am going to see how close I can get without fully gutting the car out.

I am going to try and keep some sort of balance between dropping the lbs and keeping a stock look from the cage forward. I hope to drop a few hundred pounds and still keep the interior looking good (fingers crossed)

Can't hear the music over the RPI's I think I used to like how it sounded, just can't remember

Thanks Wayne
The gauge pod location in the dash has crossed my mind.

Nothing went back in, but I am thinking about a future project with a removable stereo system in the back section. The only weight that would be added to the front would be tweeters and kick panel spekers. The head unit, sub, amp and aux batt would all be a part of a removable "boombox" of sorts.

Getting ready for beach season?? lol

Good to know how much weight could be lost with such a simple stereo delete. (since I don't have nav to begin with)

Agreed A/C should be last thing to go, until it's dedicated...especially in AZ.

I'm guessing you're going to need to keep that lightweight battery on the charger when off the road though!

This is an interesting thread and I'm hoping I can get some ideas for long-term diet projects w/o too much loss in functionality (A/C is a tough delete in AZ for example).

Headlight washer system can go also. The pump to the headlights is at the low point in the reservoir though so you can't pull that unless you find a plug. I was hoping to find a reservoir from non-m model but it looks like they also have the headlight washer.

Had it for a few years now and it has always been very accurate up to 150lbs

Ended up going with a 20lb option for more reliability since we do still take the car on road trips.

Good call. I removed this during the Splitter install

Wow Crfine...how come you haven't pulled the trigger yet and just get carbon fiber body parts. Forget this diet business and go for the serious lippo suction and stomach stapling. Your car will be the monster of a 2600+ lb car with 450HP or more...sorry I didn't follow up on your modification journal, but giving modest numbers...you're probably over 500+ HP now - 1/4 HP for the headers.

I wonder with all of your mods if you're under 3000lbs yet? Very impressive if it already is.

OH BTW, losing AC in AZ is insane especially in the summer...that's really dedication for a car...but to each their own.
