Because I consider myself to be the pinnacle of practicality I actually bought the Z4M to be my "modern daily driver hatchback". My other car is the S52B32 swapped e30 with an increased lock LSD, stiff springs/swaybars and -3 degrees camber for heavy autocross usage. Aside from that I've got the KTM, which I don't think really counts.
Add them all up and I've got the e30 for when I want to go fast and make lots of noise or autocross and maybe squeeze in extra people. The Z4M for when I want to go fast and make less noise or autocross with an excuse to not have to drive extra people. The bike for when I want to go fast and make lots of noise while fearing for my life! Lucky me my girlfriend bought a new ford focus, at least one of us had some sense...

I haven't driven one yet. Based on everything I've read, I'm afraid I might like it too much .

I originally had a '93 ZJ as a stablemate to my Moupe but sent it away after it developed electrical/harnessing problems I didn't have time to continue to troubleshoot/fix. I still miss it sometimes. It was a blast in the snow and parts were cheap and plentiful. Changing oil w/o having to jack it up was great, too.
I once found myself in a snow covered parking lot void of cars since the strip mall it was for was still being built (I was originally seeing if it connected to an outdoor mall I was trying to get to as a shortcut.....it didn't). I knew that somewhere, under all that snow, were little concrete islands.....but it mattered not....I just picked a direction and drove. I don't think I'd do that w/ the X1...
