Airbag Light - Z4M

Guys

My airbag light comes on intermittently, I have taken my car to the local BMW fours times now.

They have done the following:
1 - Said that the software was upgraded.
2 - Upgraded the firmware.
3 - Replaced the ignition unit.
4 - Replaced the control unit.

Two days now after replacing the control unit, the light is back on.

What should I do now?

I would keep going back until they solve the issue. Sounds like it should be on their dime if you have been paying so far.

From what I've read the sensor pad can fail. It may have gone South on you.

You have replaced every component except the most failure prone.. the Passenger Seat Occupancy Sensor Pad.
The seat occupation mat that changes its electrical resistance as the weight load increases is located under the seat cushion. The seat occupancy electronics evaluate these changes. The signal ”seat occupied” or ”seat not occupied” is forwarded by the seat occupation electronics to the airbag control module. As of a weight of around 12 kilograms, the seat is recognized as occupied.

The BMW INPA software that your independent mechanic should have, is able to monitor in 'realtime' the status of that sensor pad. If the sensor pad is faulty it will set a code in the SRS control module and any good vehicle (not ODB-II) software that can read the SRS module would have been able to read that code and let you know the specific issue.

^^^ This.

Had the same issue on my Z3M. The passenger seat sensor got dirty and flipped the light on.

Hit it with some contact cleaner and WHAM, all better.

I drove the car for nearly 200km with no issue thus far. It came on for a few seconds 4 days ago at the time of this post and since then nothing! ..

BMW have asked that I bring the car in if it comes on again. I will look at the passenger sensor as discussed in this forum and if it comes on again .... will let you know.

By design, once a fault is detected in the SRS system, the fault will not clear by itself. It must be manually cleared.

Are you sure the issue is not something with the instrument cluster?
Since you have already replaced the control module and reflashed software, and the problem is still there and it is intermittent, this tells me that it is not error in the SRS system and it might just be an indication issue.
