Rarity of our Cars- Idea
We all know our cars are pretty rare. I have seen less rare cars commemorate the rarity with small engraged stainless plates. Anyone ever thought of using our VINS to figure out what number our car was? i.e. 50/1800. I think it would be great if somebody could figure that out..it might be a nice way to capture how special our cars are...even on resale. I could see very small tastefully done plate place somewhere in our car. Even ond MGbs and etc.. used to do this.
Just a thought

I know it's been discussed before on how to use the VIN to check which number our car is –
I think I'm #600 from the 2007 production run. An engraved plate would be kind neat, just not sure where in the car you'd put it.

I like how Audi did it for the 25 yr Audi S4. Maybe get a Walen shift machine engrave like this-

I often wonder how many ZM vehicles could have been made and sold if they hadn't been limited production vehicles. Probably a lot of common Z owners could have had M vehicles if they had got their orders in early enough before the cut off. It's too bad all ZM's were sold out before production ever started. Does anybody know what the cut off number was. I wonder how many of you paid $10,000 - $20,000 over sticker for these rare automobiles, most of you folks did pay a premium over sticker for your cars, you know kind of like Shelby 500 Mustangs a couple of years ago, or the Hemi Challangers. last year? |

What kind of problems? I think mine is a very early 2006 build and I haven't experienced any issues. Is there something I should be on the lookout for?

the Z4M (roadsters and coupes) were not sold out before production started, in fact the production run was ended so abruptly because the dealers couldn't move the cars. In the 4th quarter of 2007 BMW was offering $7.5k in trunk money just to clear out inventory. I can say with a fair certainty that not one person paid anywhere near $10k over MSRP. In fact, I'd say the majority paid invoice or lower. I think it's more of the general idea that as a production run continues, the typical bugs/weaknesses are worked out. With that being said, my dad has an '03 Z4 roadster that's running flawlessly.

They weren't limited production; there are so few because BMW count sell them. The company had hoped to sell 1000/year. I think they would have with a few changes, which is the philosophy behind the mods I made to mine.

Do these numbers cover both coupe and vert? I can't believe there's only been 2038 Z4's and about 1800 Z4M's sold. Guess that explains why there's nowhere near the aftermarket as for say the 3 series.
