BMW Competitors
Being a young guy in an M Coupe, people try to race me all the time. I've had everything from a 370Z, to a C5 vette, and it just got me thinking about the perfect rival for our car. I know the Caymans and Boxsters present an immediate first choice, but i've never seen anyone try to race one which makes me think that the old-rich-guy persona of those P-Cars puts them in a different category. What are your thoughts? In a cinematically perfect situation, which car would you picture dueling with a Z4 M on the backroads?

I think it depends a lot on the generation. Would you agree that
997.2 *S > (997.1 *S || 987.2 CS || E85/6) > (996 *S || 987.1 CS || 987.2 C) > 987.1 C Legend: Items in parenthesis are considered more or less equal. *S denotes all variants of the Carerra S (C2S, C4S, etc)

With driver's of similar talent anything in SCCA's A Stock class is an even match. Anything lower & you should be ashamed of yourself. Anything higher then your either a driving God! or they've run out of talent
2010 A-Stock Classification: BMW M3 (E90 chassis) (2008-10) Z4 M Coupe & Roadster (2006-08) Chevrolet Corvette (C5 chassis, non-Z06) (1997-2004) Lexus IS F (2008-10) Lotus Esprit Turbo (1996-2004) Mazda RX-7 (Turbo) (1993-95) Mercedes C 63 AMG (1995-97) Porsche 911 (996 chassis) (1998-2005) Boxster S (2005-08) Cayman S (2006-08) |

Should be A stock as well as it gives the cayman s and M coupe a run for its money.

Its crazy how Rx7's are 17 years old and still keep up with modern cars. I guess thats a reason why my brother has one. |

i'd say the hyundai genesis 3.8, nissan 370z, porsche cayman s, audi tt-s and mercedes slk 55 amg. american muscle wise (and there are tons of them around), mustang gt, camaro ss and challenger srt8. all would be pretty even with the M coupe, but with significantly different characteristics.

The first SLK was the girliest car I've seen since the Nissan Pulsar, but I quite like the 2nd generation. The AMG division's insistence on automatic transmissions no matter how sporty the car made the SLK55 a no-go for me.

YEP for me to.
Audi TT-s is no competition had a race against one with my Z4MR he had no chance at all wasnt even close. The Focus RS 500 should be interesting even if it's still a cheap ford |

And theres something that just doesnt feel right about the SLK. It sounds nasty, but every time i see one i can't help but think that its a wannabe SL63 AMG. just my opinion |

The TTRS coming to our shores very soon is testing faster than the 987.2CS. It's on my short list of "next cars".
