K&N Filter Noise

So I installed a K&N cone filter (and a heat shield). At low rpms, there's an annoying hissing/whistling sound. it goes away at higher rpms (2.5 and up). I'm guessing this is because of the increased air flow. What I'd like to know is whether or not there's a way to get rid of the sound. Are people with AFE intakes experiencing this? Thanks.

I think that's part of the appeal. Most people buy them for the extra bit of intake noise.

Yup, there is no issue. That's common.

I had the Dinan CAI on my 2001 Z3 3.0 and the whistle/whine was NOT an appealing sound. I bought the car used like that and because it was only at low RPMs, I could handle the sound- although I never got used to it or learned to like it. Sadly, I couldn't compare the before and after but I hear it can be quite noticeable.

My new-to-me 2006 Z4M Roadster is all natural and I much prefer that sound (plus the extra 110hp of the M ;-)

Cheers,

Bob
