San Diego area Z4M owners...

Hi all, I'm wondering if there are any local Z4M (Coupe) owners who could give me an opinion. Comparison my car to yours. I've had my car for a few months now and am having a hard time mastering the clutch operation. Can't seem to get a good, smooth rhythm to my technique. Don't know if I'm loosing my touch or if something needs adjustment or? I'm inviting you to drive my car and let me know your thoughts.
thanks, David in Little Italy.

What he said. CDV kills the whole experience. Remove it, ASAP, and you'll be much happier.

Thanks...I looked under the car and it looks to have been previously removed! I'll look again and maybe snap a photo. Maybe I'm missing something!

I have an M and a 3.0si. The M is tough to to get the 1-2 shift smooth. Both have CDV delete. And I have 50 years experience driving stick. I just start out in 2nd sometimes.

We need to do a SD meetup soon. I checked out brm01's car. Felt normal to me. Definitely has the 1-2 notchy shift but nothing unusual. I think this is just normal for this transmission.

Are those in order of improvement? I've done a transmission flush and zhp nob. The clutch delay would help the clutch feel and bite but not the gear changes I wouldn't think. Haven't tried the mounts, maybe that is the secret.

I have two zeds, one of which shifts very nicely and the other of which has a bit of a hitch in its giddyup. The one that shifts well has Redline ATF as its lubricant. I'm thinking of switching the other one over.

Is this a "thing" with some German cars? I had the same issue with a VW Golf I owned for almost ten years. I eventually got used to it. In my case, the car seemed to shift 1 -2 more easily if I shifted at lower RPM, as opposed to winding her up in 1 before shifting to 2.

None of my Porsches seem to have had this type of issue issue, although my MR2 did, oddly. That being said, I just swapped to redline in the Z4 and have noticed shifting is much smoother now.

I was in the same position you were, I couldnt shift smoothly enough. I came from a miata and s2k so I kept think it should be shifting like that but after driving for awhile you realize the Z is more specific

as a tip for daily driving, 1-2 gear, I shift earlier before the power kicks in
after getting use to this, you can shift at any rpm, good luck. Driving stick is a learning experience everyday
