aFe stage 1 air intake
hey, what does everyone think of this intake? Is it worth the 308 bucks?

I've yet to see a dyno from a forum member that proves any gain on that intake, or other CAIs for the 3.0 for that matter.
Not worth it would be my 2 cents. |

Not for $350 for a couple pieces of sheet metal and a cone filter.
And use the . This topic has been over discussed. Fit and finish is far from perfect too from what I hear. Dinan intake can be had for $225 on ebay and is much higher quality.

I will be picking up my Z4M coupe from aFe tommorrow... they had it for a couple of days, as we are prototyping an intake for it... We should see noticeable gains along with my RPI scoops... will update tommorrow when I pick up the car. They want me to drive it around for a week... then give feedback. I will then go back and put everything to stock.
we will then dyno 1. STOCK 2. STOCK w/ RPI SCOOP and BMC filter 3. aFe CAI w/no scoop, stock restrictive plate 4. aFe CAI w/ RPI scoop and BMC filter

He will when he has the results, he cant dyno his car at 11:30PM without the intake installed, that would sort of defeat the purpose. Just wait, he'll post when he is ready to.

Sorry for jumping on you; but, a lot of people are very impatient. We have a lot of really cool people on the board that are more then happy to help out so if you see something about dyno runs or any other kind of info more then likely it will be up as soon as it is available.

Hey guys... just an update. I just got the car back yesterday, and immediately you can hear the difference. I mild growl, but step on it and you get a VERY nice F1 "like" growl....
At first I slightly felt the difference in power delivery but that was due to the ECU needing to re-learn. I drove the car around for about 100 miles and the ECU definetely caught on. I left the RPI scoop on. aFe does not want me to post up any pictures yet, but it is very similiar to the M3 stage 1 and 2. Let me say OMG!!! It is truly night & day. Just with the RPI and BMC filter, more torque, hp and better midrange, but with the aFe, WOW!! Even more torque and hp (butt dyno says x1,000,000 times more, hehehe). Very noticeable gains. Also very linear... Push the SPORT button on and its like they added STERIODs to the car... For now, I will leave you with that, we will dyno sometime in the next couple weeks... but aFe wants me to drive it around and give tons of feedback... So far, LOVE IT, no check engine light on, no problems, but pure FUN, pure adreneline rush...

BMI? you mean RPI?... Since the most important aspect of the RPI setup is the "Scoop", for now we left it on with the prototype CAI aFe intake. I'm pretty sure I will feel a drop in hp and torque if I took the RPI scoop off. Again, will dyno soon to get some actual numbers... Thanks for being patient guys... BTW, was at the MFest Reunion luncheon in Irvine, showed off the prototype, the Z4M owners were very interested in how it sounded and felt.... We went on a group drive up PCH and let me tell ya, everyone heard the "growl" hehe...

Dropped off the car, they will have it for a couple of days and do all the dynos. Then ship out the prototype intake housing for manufacturing of the production housing. The actual production model stage 1 should be out in a couple of weeks... pricing is still not set.
Let me tell you guys... can't wait...!
