2003 E85 charcoal canister location & access

I have a P0455 code - large leak evap system......not the gas cap.....replaced the selenoid with no luck clearing the code. I am going after the charcoal canister. I thought I read somewhere it is accessable through the trunk? Where do I find it ? Thanks

I believe it is under the trunk pan behind the right wheel.
Need to remove 3 or 4 trim panels to get at it.

You can access the evap pump and charcoal canister by partially removing the right rear fender liner.
Before you do that, verify the evap system test pump is running. The pump itself is a much more common failure than the charcoal canister or any of the other parts back there.
I don't remember the exact cycle for the pump running but it does run periodically to test the system. You might have to lie on the ground with so you can listen just behind the right rear tire and have some turn the ignition on while you listen. You may hear it run once when you stop the engine and turn off the ignition.
If you do replace the pump, you can get the exact pump as a Bosch unit from FCP Euro that you'd buy from BMW at 2X the price.
