Spring Detail - Day 1 + Nanoskin Autoscrub review

Decided to get started on my spring detailing today. First up was my new foam cannon and pressure washer. Awesome! Did a foam coat, let it sit and run for 5 minutes then rinsed off, foamed again and washed lightly with my wash kit before final rinse. Check out the awesome foam coverage...

After body and wheel rinse, I brought out the Raggtopp cleaner then after that was done and the whole car was dried, I used Raggtopp sealer for the soft top.

Next up was another new addition to the tool chest...the Nanoskin Autoscrub. Since buying the car in Nov, I have not had the chance to clay my car and it did have a lot of rail dust and other surface contaminants. For those who don't clay or have never, after your next wash, put a plastic bag over your hand and rub it over your paint. You will feel all the little bumps...rail dust and other gunk embedded in your paint. Until now you had one choice, claying your car which is what I have always done.

Saw something over the winter called Nanoskin Autoscrub and bought the 6inch diameter hook and loop pad for my DA polisher. I followed advice that I had read and started with it on my windshield to break it in and then moved on to the paint. This disk is a polymer based pad that is VERY fine and designed to replace claying. I spent a couple hours using the pad (with the Rickard's clay lube...didn't use the Nanoskin lube) and my gosh, what a different. Unbelievable really. I will never clay again! Paint is now smooth as a baby's bottom!

Tomorrow I start with swirl removal then on to polish, sealer, then eventually some new DodoJuice wax I picked up as well.

With that nanoscrub, did you see any increase in marring over typical claying?

I've been reading up on it and have yet to pull the trigger yet.

Nope, none. In fact, it left the car pretty shinny. I had read those posts as well and am pretty sure that either they did not use enough lube, did not break the pad in on their windshield, or were putting pressure on the pad.

Trust me, it was a piece of cake and I would recommend it to anyone!

Might be a bit for more pics. I need to order a Dr Colorchip kit to do some touchups before I seal and wax.

What kind of soap are you using for the foam cannon - I picked one up as well but not getting near as much suds and I've played with the settings.
Also, where did you pick up said soap in Canada ?

I used CG HoneyDew. At first I didn't have much but realized I forgot the pickup tube in the bottle! What pressure washer output are you running?

I bought the soap at autogeek in the US but eshine has it (and everything else I have ever needed...awesome prices).

I bought the Riccardo. Love it. I also picked up a Coleman pressure washer as my older Karcher did not put out enough pressure. I LOVE this pressure washer...unique design, all metal wands, quick change tips, and low price. I also bought some quick release adapters so I can pop the foam cannon onto the trigger to foam then pop it off and the wand on for rinsing. Really easy.

Also, it appears I did buy the CG HoneyDew from eShine and not Autogeek. Mixing up my orders.

I have a used Karcher that I picked up (for $60) which was barely used so I couldn't say no. I didn't get any books with it but it seems to be a K3.98 rated at 1750 PSI. And I have the foam cannon off Amazon - looks exactly like the Ricardo one to me, might be the same thing. So far with the soap I've been using I haven't been impressed with the pressure or the suds, but I'll definitely give the Chemical Guys stuff a try.

I've actually been trying to decide between their
Maxi-Suds II ~SUPER SUDS SHAMPOO-
or the
HoneyDew Snow Foam that you mentioned.
Any experience with the Maxi suds ?

Yeah, its likely the pressure washer. Most of the posts I have read recommend at least 2000psi, though mine is around 1900. I also have a Karcher but know its not enough to run the foam cannon.

No experience yet with the Maxi Suds but I did order a small bottle of it as well. I plan to try it on the next wash to see. I do know most I have read prefer the HoneyDew but to each their own.

Since you're just in Aurora, if you feel like heading to Waterloo some weekend in May and bring your gear, I'd be happy to figure your setup out.

Thanks for the offer, I might take you up on that. I was just going to put in an order for the HoneyDew on eShine but it looks like they don't have it in stock ATM. Guess I'll have to wait on that for now.

I just put up a post in the Canada forum about a possible detailing day in souther ontario. If its a go, we could put together a bulk order to eShine or even meet down there!
