Ok. Curious. What have you done? Looks like a iphoneAndroidiMini (?) in with the nav. Yes?

Nice, was curious how the mini would fit in that space.

What are you using to keep it in place? Little bit of Velcro?

I was just messing around and surprised how well the iPad mini fit. No plans for it to be permanent. Personally I'm not a fan of suction cup nav screens and I'm quite happy with the stock unit. It does exactly what I expect it to, show a map all the time, with zero effort. (I blame playing too many games like GTA)

I know there a quite a few people that don't like the OEM nav, now I can tell them to STFU and buy an iPad mini

I can confirm the nexus 7 fits perfectly as well. I'm thinking about making up some sort of clip to hold my nexus 7 in place there for Google maps nav.

Looks like this would be a much better route for non nav z4's to get awsome nav as opposed to the oem retrofit.

Anyone know if it's possible to buy just the nav plastic dash opening frame ? without buying the entire $1200 lcd info screen?

There are ways to tap into the screen, either through the iBUS or bypassing that and doing a direct connection to the display. I think both composite and VGA are options, but the resolution is small, your phone (or iPad) would look better for movies and be 10 times easier anyway. DVDs in car is so 2001.

Now what I'd really want to do if anything is use it for extra gauges/telemetry.

Sometimes I wish I could go back to 2001. You just need one of these:

Yea iPhone is definitely a better idea. Any thoughts on full iphone5 comparability and integration with the nav screen?

I've spent so much time reading up on suspension and brakes and motor work that I gave zero attention to tech goodies lol. Humor me

Yes please! I've wanted to do something like that ...
Does it still pop open and close smoothly (in the Z4)?

If you leave stuff in front of the screen it wont open and close and you may break it.
