New member look for e86 buying advice

BIMMERPOST / Classifieds
Asking Price:
None

Item Interest
Hi all,

I have been silently reading zpost (and 1addicts) for well over 2 years. I am finally in a position where I can realize a boy hood dream: own an M car.

A little about me: I am huge car fan especially Bavarian cars obviously. My dad owned several in BMWs when we lived in Germany. I remember sitting the back looking over his shoulder fixing the speedo going on 220 km/h (~130+mph) in his 1984 525i. That is probably the reason I am a mechanical engineer and work with cars today.

Well I have been doing some research on the e86 M Coupe. It seems pretty reliable over all. Obviously a complete (and documented) maintenance story is crucial. I would really like to buy it from the previous owner (1st owner preferred). Before buying it I would get a BMW mechanic to perform an inspection. Is there anything in particular that one should be on the lookout for? I could not find a post relating to tips for buying used M coupes, any suggestion?

This is a great forum and I hope to find my dream for a member here. People on this forum are true fans and take great care of their babies. I am a bit of a freak when it comes to maintenance and care of my cars …

Thanks for any help.

Chicago Hokie

Just picked up mine. I am also an ME, there are a couple of us on here. My best advice is get the newest lowest mile car you can afford. Drive the hell out of it while its under warranty so if any issues pop up it happens when you are covered.
