FS: 3.91 REM Polished Ring & Pinion
Hi Everyone, You might have seen the post a few months ago about Jareds ring and pinion set that he was selling. He has a Z4MC that has a stock 3.62 final drive ratio. I purchased it for my '05 Z4 3.0, unfortunately I found out the final drive ratio on the 3.0 '03-'05 models is 3.07...yikes! Probably a little bit too much of a mod for that car, so I'm putting the ring and pinion set back up for sale. This is a Timken 3.91 ring and pinion that has been REM polished. This ring and pinion came from a race shop that carefully inspected and polished the set. It is ready to go to a Z4M Roadster or Coupe owner. As most of you guys know, this is an excellent 'bang for the buck' mod that will give you a great deal more torque to the wheels while still retaining highway driving characteristics. The REM polishing alone from differential shops is $200. I paid Jared $650 for the ring and pinion set, and I'd like to get that. I think that's a really fair price given this same setup would go for $900+ if purchased online. Cash for pickup, Paypal for long distance purchases. Any questions let me know. Thanks, Chris

so would this basically require the diff to be rebuilt?

Yes, this is not a complete diff, you would need a shop to install the ring and pinion into your existing differential. Overall its cheaper than buying a completely new differential which would be 2-3k depending upon what you want.

Rebuilding a diff takes time and skill. I would guess between $800-$1100.
Remember a new diff is $2-$3k for our cars, depending upon what you want (LSD, etc) Chris

congrats....
If my budget wasn't blown to pieces already, I would have jumped on this myself. Looking forward to your writeup when you get it done.

lol yeah, now that I have headers in, with the tune; this ring and pinion should really help me crap my pants when I'm driving
4.10's would've turned my 1st gear completely useless, so imma go with the 3.91 for now lol. I'm going to have to wait until after holidays for the "after" dyno's. I'm going to go back to the same DynaPack I started out with, and I also got a deal on a DynoJet, so it'll be good comparison between different dyno's =] |

Yup
I think the only thing that could top it in terms of feel would be a supercharger, The car just comes alive in every gear, Esp on the highway, the passing power is insane, I'm sure 3.91's are a barrel of laughs too but if your going to go through all the trouble of changing gears you might as well go for the 4.10's This is something I wanted to get right the first time and not wish I had of got the other set, Its a job I only wanted to do once and I'm glad I only had to do it once, Its not fun,

Thanks.
I'm sure you have a write up on it in here somewhere, but did you rebuild your diff or buy a complete 4.10 diff?

Yeah I have a write up, Just look through my old posts, Wasn't too picture heavy as I just wanted the bloody thing in,
But I did it myself on my back with the car only on jack stands lol, Oh and ALONE lol, That was a weekend to forget! I wouldn't say this is a DIY though, setting up gears is a PITA, Its not complicated, its just tedious with constant shimming, assembling, checking, then if its wrong it all comes apart again, Thankfully my diff needed no shims, I guess because the car was still new, and to date zero whine or issues,

Oh and complete diff's wasn't available when I did mine, You could only buy the gear sets,
Dinan at the time only offered 3.91's as a complete Diff setup, But from memory they were close to $3000 for a diff, I think now you CAN get 4.10's already setup, But even a diff swap isn't any picnic!!
