E90 M3 GTS

http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/04/bmw-m3-gts-unveiled/

450hp, 3285lb track ready version of the M3 is out. Idk why they didn't call it CSL.

Oh, little detail, asking price is 170.000$.

It'll be Euro only I bet. You'll never see one unless you hang out at Nurburgring or Monaco. I'd much rather have a Carrera GT.

3285 lbs with V8 power is an amazing package for an out of the box, street legal race car. I do think that the price is a bit over the top and around 100-120K would have been more appropriate as to me. This appears to be a genuine Porsche GT3 fighter.

The Carrera GT is in a different ballpark (price and category) so there is no comparison there IMHO.

Love it that the M division is still doing some real cars.

If it were to ever be sold in the US (which for sure it won't), it wouldn't be anywhere close to $170K. That's the equiv. of the Euro/$ exchange. Anyone who knows anything about worldwide auto pricing knows the local market dictates the price and exchange rates have nothing to do with it. My USD $55,000 Z4 M was about $80,000 equiv. in Germany (where I took delivery of the car).

One thing I wonder about these lightweight cars though, when they takeout the parts, why do they pump up the price? Although it should be cheaper than the regular, I can see that it may hurt their sales. But in this M3 example, it is more than 2x expensive. To me, this is bullshit. I can buy an M3 with no options, then strip it down to 3000lbs, put a supercharger and make 600hp for less than what they're asking for GTS (God, I can even sell the parts I took out). And yes I can paint it to orange too! Or I'd go buy an R8

I love the color, reminds me of Inka rot (a BMW from LONG ago, 2002tii)

FYI that's an E92, the E90 is a sedan and I think weighs 25lbs more.

The rollbar, although very cool, doesn't seem to be that strong, it only has 2 attachment points. (from what I can see)

I'd be curious what the back seat area looks like, I know it doesn't have a backseat but something must be in that area.
