No worries... I'll take some pix. Gonna start them in an hour or so, so I'll weigh the OE section 1 ( it weighs a SHIT TON for what it is ) as well before I jig it / cut them out. Then I'll weigh them after the new pieces are welded in before I install. I don't know the weight savings will be, but after picking up the stock section, I bet it's at least 10 / 15 lbs....

I seriously can't wait to hear it with the Powerloop mufflers... muahahahah !

Just held a tape measure up to my stock section one, It looks like the section one piping is 2.25inch diameter. As far as the length goes, its just a guess because my heatsheild is covering the cats, but it looks like they are around 8 to 10 inches long each.

Im planning on doing my section one after i get a chance to dyno, in the next few weeks. Ill ask the shop what size they recommend.

Being a metric car, OD on section 1 & 2 is 60mm (2 3/8"). OEM headers are 40mm (1 9/16").

Thanks everyone. There are actually tons of threads on m3 forums, and everyone seems to be using AR20 resonators to go catless in section 1, so thats what I'm gonna do + add 90* bungs and an egt bung

tom wy dont you just go for really high flow 100 cell cats, they are making insane power jumps and your still legal for tailpipe tests which happen yearly??

also its of course much kinder to our world ( alittle weak but, still an important issue)

1. these resonators a 3lbs each, and cost $37 each. I bet 100 cell cats cost hundreds of dollars and weigh more.
2. I'm looking to reduce the rasp of the exhaust, and these eliminate 90% of it. Cats won't do that
3. They'll flow better than 100 cell cats, as its a straight through design
4. I wasn't passing tailpipe tests anyway, with my current setup. Plus, in Florida, there are NO yearly inspections. wooooooo!!
5. They'll smell bad, especially in a convertible, but I can live with that..
6. We drive 500hp cars, getting 16mpg total, who are you kidding yourself about being kind to the world? I do my part by being a very strict recycler of my trash at home

I'm just trying to be realistic. I do my part with recycling. If you feel that strongly about emissions, you shouldn't have put a supercharger on this car in the first place honestly ...
If I had an extra $500 laying around, I'd definitely consider high flow cats vs just resonators

the stock cats produce rasp, we all know that. Higher flowing cats, I assume, will only be more raspy.

I'm gonna get this done, and see if how it changes the tone when my cutouts are wide open. Right now, its crazy raspy. might even convince me to keep them

I actually just got two ar25's to custom fab a section 1 before installing headers and a tune.

Avidmotorsports is the shop I work with. Who were you planning on using? Maybe we can get a deal for both of us.

Ar25s are a little harder to install from what I've read, because the stock pipe is smaller. The Ar20s are exactly the same inside diameter (2.5"), but easier to install because of the size of the tips

I think we should definitely do both cars together and get a discount. You're getting 90* bungs for the 02 sensors, and an egt bung welded in, right? I gotta order those, plus an extra o2 bung so I can run a wideband gauge eventually.

I had my electric cutouts welded in for a very really reasonable $200 at a local exhaust shop called Duro Exhaust. The welds aren't show quality, but they get the job done. I'm gonna stop by there this week and ask for a quote for 2 vehicles, for a neat weld job. Please ask your place for a quote

With all that needs to be done, I'm wondering if its just better to cut our the cats on the oem pipe and just replace them withe the resonators? I'm not planning on running a wideband sensor. What do you think?

That could/would work, but I'd be destroying a piece thats worth between $300 and $500 on the open market because I have 90* bungs welded into my OEM cats, so it depends on the price difference between doing that and going all out custom pipe. I'd think it should be relatively easy to make a few bends in a pipe, and to weld on connectors on each end

I'll get a price quote Monday or Tuesday

Hummmm... seems like some of us here are in need for section 1s and we have very few to no options...

What I was planning to do was: order this section 1 and have a shop cut it after the O2 bungs, arrange the flangs so they'll screw and attach to the X-pipe and have the shop weld it back... http://store.vacmotorsports.com/vac-...n-1-p2615.aspx

Custom made would be the 2nd option BUT I doubt this option would be much cheaper.

What do you people think?

I see, you already modified your section 1 to essentially be a euro section 1. I was told that the custom pipe should be about 400. But I'm not sure that includes o2 bung and egt. I'll call and find out this week.

right, except the cats in the euro section 1 are longer and therefore are likely more restrictive. I wanna go catless because huge gains can be had on the supercharged engine.
