It's a thing, and BMW things like that are expensive. Find the part number on realoem and I bet it will still be crazy expensive.

ECS lists all 4 pieces for $340 each.
So $1360 total.
With some searching around, could probably get it down close to a grand.

Haha. But STILL. That's stupid expensive.

Wasn't the extended leather option like $2500 when buying new?

Why are they so much more expensive separately?
Or is this a BMW thing? I'm not too familiar with how they run things.

Someone posted somewhere that (if I remember correctly) it costs 10k to retrofit the extended leather package. I believe the door cards are 2500 each, center console is 2500-3000, visors ??500 each??, the roll bar loops 1300, and the A pillar.... 1000??, so yes it is a BMW thing.

Well that's dumb. I'm sure they'd be able to make a small amount of money off those parts if they would sell them for a little cheaper. Even if the total retrofit cost was 2x as much as what it would be knew, I'm sure people would be willing to buy them.

Installing options after taking a delivery of a car always costs way more than the option would have cost before hand. Thats like every car ever.

Extended leather is super expensive for sure, but look at the cost of retrofitting other OEM options. M seats on non-M car? $20k. Option from factory? Probably like $4k.

If the OP is looking for that look try your local upholstere.
I changed my complete interior from beige to black and had my hoops covered in leather
I think it cost me 300 for all 4 pieces. Taking them off are a challenge but was accomplished with only 1 broken tab........slow and steady wins the race........I used 4 cedar shims to hold open 4 of the clips while I manually opened the rest.

Check last post that's my interior

You can buy the BMW hard wind deflector kit for around $500 or so and in addition to the clip in wind defelector and trunk lid storage brackets you also get new roll bar covers. So, buy one of those, have the new covers finished in leather and you get a new wind deflector too.

The only problem is the hard wind deflector won't fit with the extended leather hoops It is a tight fit...

That being said he could just buy the plastic covers and have them wrapped in leather for a lot less than the OEM parts.

You also have to consider that the 2500$ extended leather option probably more closely reflects the incremental cost difference between the standard interior (which is included in the price of the car) and the extended pieces.

Good point.

I always wondered how they deal with slow selling parts on low volume cars. For parts like these, are they sitting on some number complete extended leather interiors which they may never sell all of, do they actually try to occasionally build more parts (small run, expensive) or as needed (really expensive but no inventory)? I would assume that the initial production runs were far more efficient and after that it becomes the "we're not selling these for a small markup with all the costs involved with production, shipping and inventory".

Yes, if you wrap in leather first and then attach the brackets to the roll bar covers. But I wonder - if you attach the brackets first, and then apply the leather (you would need a cut out in the leather for the bracket) it could work. You would just need a skilled leather craftsman.

I made a thread about extended leather years ago,
Feel free to bump it,

If I recall it was over $11000 to retrofit all the pieces lol

That most certainly would work and would be a unique upgrade as there are probably a total of ZERO extended leather cars with the hard windblocker.

I LOVE the leather. I would trade a testicle for the extended leather package. It seems an extremely rare option. Aside from post above; I have yet to see a car with it.

Be careful what you wish for.
I'm fighting bubbles in my A-pillar covers, the trim across the top behind the visors, and the top of the center console between the headrests.

SoCal sunshine.
