Getting to Bluetooth Code

I have an 07 convertible and the bluetooth code was lost before I bought the car. Stealership wants $65 just to hook up and read it. My understanding is that it's on the unit in the trunk, but I don't want to tear up the carpet of the little plastic plugs trying to get to it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The carpet is pretty tough. Here's a DIY that shows how to get all that stuff apart.
http://www.zpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=497843

If you have a little mech ability and a basic set of tools (metric ratchet set, screwdrivers) you can get to the module. Pretty sure its the one that is in the bracket to the left of the hole in the Pics. Get the bracket off and your passcode should be on the TCU.

No third option Ive heard of, Do the R&R or its off to the dealer, wallet in hand - Sorry.

Unfortunately, the dealers here in the Atlanta area value their money more than generating goodwill and possible future/referral business.

I just pulled mine to read the passkey. It' on the left side, behind the carpet. The sticker with information is on the front, so the TCU had to be removed from the bracket, which is really no problem. The hardest part is reassembling the carpet connectors.

It is also a good time to install a Dice or Intravee modlue while the carpet is off. Also, my car had a big piece of foam, approximately 10x6x5" that was glued to the rear carpet, and it had fallen off. I reattached it with velcro.

I wonder if it is VIN related. My passkey is very similar to my last 4 digits of the vin. Can others take a look and see if they see a pattern?

No part of my VIN and passkey have anything in common.

Had this same problem, and also did not want to tear apart the trunk to get to this number.

Try going the other way. I removed the speaker grill behind the drivers seat and was able to spot the code with a flashlight. You may have gently push aside some wire bundles with a long screwdriver or the like.

Hopefully this may work in your case, I have a z4m coupe not convertible but I would think it is set up the same.

My dealer read mine for free and gave me the wrong number! They read it on the computer (supposedly) and gave me an 8 digit number.
I didn't realize until I tried to link my phone that it wasn't right.

Skuronen (above) and one other person suggested going through the speaker grill behind the drivers seat and I just did that and it WORKS! lol
With the grill off there is a very small opening on the right side (when facing the speaker opening) where you can see the TCU label which is most likely partially blocked from view by some harnesses. I covered a long screwdriver with heat shrink to eliminate any sharp edges and conductive metal and was able to push the harness aside and get the number. Phone is working! You will know when you are in the area when you see the Bluetooth logo and/or the letters PK which are just before your 4 digit code.
Many thanks to the guys who discovered this route!
If anyone wants to send me a note I can reply with photos.
The grill comes out with gentle prying with a plastic wedge of some sort. btw....this is the very large grill that has to come out! NOT the tweeter.
All the best.....

For my car, there is no relationship at all between the VIN and the four digit bluetooth code.

If you try to see the code on the TCU unit in the trunk, look for the for-digit code that begins with "PK" and then the four numbers. A small digital camera taped to a stick could be handy, come to think of it!!!

I, too, was able to recover my code by removing the driver-side subwoofer grill. I used a long-handled wooden spoon to gently move the harness and then used a small mirror (telescoping & articulated) and flashlight to read the code off the label. If I remember correctly, the label is upside down. Good luck.

I went the carpet route. Took me an entire afternoon to do it without damaging anything. Still bust a clip. BMW didnt really think this one through.

Hello Uncle Russ,
That was my experience as well,.......the text is upside down on the label. All in all it's easier than tearing the trunk apart!
