Z4MR snow tire dilemma
Would all-seasons suffice for winter in NYC?
I was travelling abroad and planning to get snow tires for my Z4MR from Tirerack but they are sold out of the only available option in stock size for the season (Pirelli Sottozeros). Since I can't seem to find those anywhere else either (Tirebuyer, Sears, Firestone, etc.), I am now considering all-seasons. Tirerack has Bridgestone DriveGuards in Z4M stock size but they are GT-rated (vs. performance) so not sure. I know all-seasons never replace true snow tires but given the situation do you guys think those would work for NYC winters? I only drive the car on weekends and have a covered garage so don't expect to drive in much snow. |

There is no way I would try all seasons.
Don't worry too much about stock sizes. In fact it's better if you go a little narrower. Also keep all four corners the same.

Not even for driving on mostly cleaned up streets? I don't expect to be driving in more than an inch max.
The main issue with winters is storage. I live in a studio so besides stacking them up next to my desk, there is no storage option. NYC living is as much of a compromise as all-seasons, if not bigger. |
