i would keep the csl wheels. the dpe wheels are nice wheels, i like them a lot, but just not on this car. Your car color looks great witht the hyperblack and with the csl. hope that helped.

If you keep the DPEs, I may be interested in your CSL reps.

CSL. They work much better on a car that is sporty vs. the 3 piece fat lip bling look.

Depends on what u are going for. If u want to be noticed get the DPE if not keep the csl. In your case i would take the DPE just because the CSL is replica if its oem then its worth keeping.

If I had to choose, I would say the CSL wheels. While they are popular, they are one of those timeless BMW wheels. I just ordered 19x8.5 and 19x10 Hyperblack CSL for my red MZ4 Coupe so I am biased that way. Plus the DPE just don't look quite right on that car for some reason. IMHO

Thanks for the feedback
I'm going to give these DPE's a shot. Iknow they are a little bling bling, but I am a sucker for deep dished polished wheels; Raw material. No chrome, no paint, no powder, just alloy. You can even see the brush markings on the mesh portion for the wheel
I think once I install my springs, the car will get back to a more sporty look. If not, I can always go back to the CSL's and try to get a set of 19X10's mentioned in the forum. That would be an awsome look. Thanks again! Hyper balck CSL's will be up for sale soon. |

I like the CSL's but soooo many people around here have em so I guess I'd opt for something different. Oddly enough, Ive never seen another Z4 around here with M6 reps, but in other parts of the country those are even more common than the CSL's I guess. I dunno.

If you're sitting on the fence based on looks, how about weight? Is one set substantially lighter then the other?

Weight
Yes, the weight loss is a plus. I get to shed a few pounds with the DPE's. I will find exactly how much weight in a couple of days.
CSL's are classic and timeless look, and There is a good chance I will run them again. Lucky for M freaks Like Me, they Rep's are very easy to come by. Thanks for all the posts! |

Those DPEs definitely look the biz, but the style of the wheel leans more towards M-B. For that... I say keep the CSL replicas.

None of the above. I prefer OEM, or real CSLs, or about any cross spoke BBS (LM, RG-R, RS-GT). All else look cheap or over the top. Bling doesn't belong on this car. It's understated as is and is best when it stays that way. For sure I'd put the money in a brake upgade before wheels. There is weight savings there too.

Love DPE wheels but not those on your car. It is a tough call b/c I am not a huge fan of replicas...especially when comparing to a nice forged wheel. Have you considered changing the center color of that DPE wheel to something like a flat military gray or hyperblack. That might a change to dial the bling of the wheels back a little and would probably look good with the color of your car. Good luck!

Without a doubt the CSL's are clean. BUT you have an "M". And M's are beasts... Raw... Nothing like a deep polished lip wheel to make a car look "metal" rather that soft and toy like.
What's hurting this application is 2 things one of which you are about to address: 1. Lower the car 2. The tire profile is too high... Especially on the front. Seems more noticable on the DPE's because they're not hyper black and the spokes don't come clear out to the lip like the CSL's. I am a fan of both the clean look and the Deep muscular look (currently have some deep Work wheels and love them). Hands down deep forged wheel gets 10x more looks and isn't blingy in the chrome cheapo way at all. In fact many race cars have similar looking modular wheels. Nothing special looking about CSL wheels. In fact, we're the only ones that notice or care about them. But the average granny, little boy/girl, women, club stanks et al even recognize a nice set of forged modular wheels - But again not in a bling way. I many love (but not all - so calm down flamers) love CSL's because they're cheap. But given the choice between the right I-Forged, BBS LM, HRE, Work etc for same price most would pick the forged. I say drop that sucker, tighten up the tire thing and if you really want to get agressive you can powder the centers anthracite or black! |
