Boom. It's Here: 525 ESS Ponies

Well I pulled the trigger about a week ago and made the call. After all the hype lately on the forums with boost and new body kits coming out I got really excited and once again was bit by the Mod Bug. The kit just arrived about 20 minutes ago. I'm going to be doing the install myself using my cousins lift in their garage. Plans are to either start tomorrow or early Sunday morning. With my Pops and Cousin helping out I think we can bang it out in one day (install on the webpage claims 8-10hr total time). After that I'll be over nighting the ECU to ESS for the tune and from there its useless gears and bald tires! Cant wait!!

I'm not the greatest with keeping a diary but i'll try my best. I'll snap some photos during the install and try and get a video up when shes running.

ESS Tuning is a great company to work with, Roman was happy to answer all of our calls and questions.

I plan on dyno-ing sometime after the kit is broken in as well. My other performance mods already include AA Headers and RPi Mufflers. I had a tune and the RPi intake kit but obviously that will be removed or replaced. If the scoop i have becomes useless I'll put it up for sale for cheap.

Man it feels so good to join the boost club. Gauges are now needed though. Any Suggestions?!

Stay Tuned!

Awesome. Keep us posted. I'm thinking about the same kit. Congrats!

I would read up on the p3 vent gauge.

Didn't know this existed for Z4. I'm going to look into it! Anybody has it installed?

Grats on the kit!!

As far as gauge goes, I also have a P3C vent integrated gauge for my VF570. Figuring out small issues here and there still. Going to head down to VF headquarters end of this month to get the remainder of the stuff taken care of and hopefully a custom dyno tune for my specific car.
I pulled only 370rwhp and 300rwtq yesterday @ 8psi, 68*F ambient temps using 91 octane. AFRs were quite rich at low-11s, and at one point I saw high-10. My torque falls off extremely hard around 6000RPM, hindering peak HP.

In regards to the P3C gauge, you'll need to get the analog boost option available from P3C. And then you'll also need an Innovate LC-1 AFR controller (costs around $150) to send AFR signal to the P3C gauge.

It's not wide band, depending on how accurate you want.

Using a separate controller to send signal, it becomes wideband

Hmm. Really. How does that work. Pm me if you want, because it may be perfect for a non-track car. Don't want to take over VinnieAces thread.

Love seeing more of these getting done!

This is definitely something on my potential radar though to at least partially replace my loss.
Hoping some future conversations with Mike and Nick G can yield a potential turbo setup one day down the line....

I was corrected. It wasn't clear on the site. Mfanatic brought to my attention and I have confirmed, it is wideband because it needs the install of the LC-1 on our cars.

I have ordered it to add to the supercharger install. The only negative that I have seen is it only records for 15 seconds, but that should be enough to diagnose an issue.

Definitely not enough for tuning.

Quick update before bed:

I had to wait a couple days before being able to use my cousin's lift, so installation was postponed slightly.

We started yesterday for a few hours, and put in about another 6 hours today. Oil cooler, intercooler, pulleys, and the supercharger itself is now on.

Tomorrow comes all the piping.

I sent out the ECU to be overnighted this morning, so it should be back to me by Thursday. And then thats when we rock n roll!

There were a few some complications but nothing we couldnt handle. The lift makes everything easier, including the part of the install where you must prop the engine up slightly in order to install the supercharger bracket.

Few pics:

Oil Cooler on:

Intercooler on (not yet tightened so might be a tad crooked):

Supercharger on:

Done for the night:

Well the kit is officially bolted on as of last night. I was hoping the ECU would have been in my hands and in the car today to be able make a meet happening tonight, sadly no luck.

Stay tuned!

make sure you're using brand new oil cooler o-rings, the old ones will leak. It uses OEM size
