Adjusting Aftermarket Exhaust w/OEM Hangers

Throwing this up here because I know others have come across the same issue.

I bought some used RE Cans, they are fantastic.

However, I put them on, and now I'm looking for adjustments to make them fit a bit more flush with the bumper, as pictured here:

Currently, these are now mine sit.

I realize they need adjusted, but how? Could you manipulate the flange at a different angle (right now they are sitting at a 45* angle like OEM) to adjust height up/down and left/right depending on how you orientate the flange?

The hangers themselves off of the cans do not seem like they have much adjustment at all.

I'm purely focusing on OEM mounting points. I know there are aftermarket hangers available. But those seem too rich for my blood as of now.

Thanks

I was able to adjust mine (both REs and Stromung) just using the flange tightening method from the RPI (I think) DIY thread everyone uses. I'm sure you tried that. Sorry I don't have any better ideas.

I saw that DIY, and sadly I didn't use that position.

did you have the flange at 12 and 6 o'clock positions and simply just tighten the top bolt more than the bottom?

I was able to lined up my Remus using the OE 45* flange position. The trick is to have the tips at exactly where you would want them, then tighten the flanges up accordingly. The hangers should be tighten last.

Looks like yours is fairly well centered...just needs to lift it a bit. Just curious why you didn't want to try out the 12 & 6 o'clock position to see if that would work?

One of my REs sat at the right height, but was off center.
Had to put a longer bolt in the hanger and shim it with 4-5 M8 washers.
The other was nicely centered, but hung even lower than yours.

I loosened the hanger and flange bolts, put a block of wood on the jack and jacked the can right up to touch the bumper. Tightened everything up, dropped the jack, an it came out just right.
About 3/8" gap between the bumper and the tip.

Because before I took it off the jack stands it looked fine. Until I pulled up other images and realized that it didn't. lol

Thanks guys. I'll throw the car back up on stands, loosen up the hangers and flange, and jack the exhaust up to where I want it and tighten accordingly

Jack it up higher than where you want it.
It'll still sag some when you take the jack out.

I went through this last weekend. Called it a day with "close enough", but if it bugs me later I'll try harder. Basically, I kept loosening the two bolts clamping the exhaust flange, then turning that clamp a bit. I had my wife behind the car and I would hold the muffler and turn it to be where should suggested, watching what that flange did. Then I'd rotate the flange so I could torque it correctly to mimic how the joint twisted.

In the end, I think it was nearly perfect, but its also hard to tell when it's jacked up. After I put it down, I just drive it an never looked at the alignment again. Sounds so good

What did you find did the trick? Was it mostly adjusting at the flange?

The trick was mainly using the jack to get the exhaust into place. Once that was set just tightening down the flange would lock it into place. I didn't observe any sag of the exhaust once the jack was off.

The flange did have some adjustment, where tightening one bolt more than the other could get the flange to shift left/right...up/down depending on orientation.

That and a little tweak of the hangers on the passenger side got the tips level with the driver side. Bubble level and all.
