That is where the PN # is on my current BPV which is 8D004-010......but I would like to know the part number of the new valve ESS is supplying. I believe it is still a Vortech

ask ess to send you a pic of the P/N???

please jb06m don't buy these parts from ESS, they will charge you a premium when you can buy better pieces elsewhere. why are you even getting a new VT bpv valve?? its exactly the same as they old one except they've changed the way the case bolts together, it will still have the whistle you don't want.

if you want to get rid of that sound you need to change to a completely different valve.

Just installed mine... initial impressions - I should have done this a LONG time ago!!

Install was very easy and took maybe 30 min. You need a Tial Q, Greddy adapter, and Greddy gasket. Tools are a 10 mm wrench and 5/32" allen wrench.
Pics from the install attached.

Please ignore the passenger's camera work. I'll post a better video later.

WOT 1st, slow shift to 2nd to get the full BOV sound, then some part throttle at high (5-6k+ rpm).

The BOV is quiet below 3k rpm. Above that it starts to get loud. Over 4k it's loud and will turn heads. It's quieter at part throttle and low rpm overall. At high rpm it's much much louder. The sound in general is more mature, zero squeaks, and deeper. I could see it being polarizing if you're constantly on/off throttle over 4k rpm. I personally love it.

Thanks again for the help and video posts. Those cars sound somewhere between a million or billion times better than mine.

One other thing, I couldn't get the other old gasket off. It may have had some sort of sealant on it. So, I doubled up on gaskets and placed the other on top.

pokey was your re-circing back into the intake in that video, can't believe how noisy that was, sounds great, as it keeps releasing so easily at part throttle I'm guessing the spring in their isn't strong enough, 2psi spring was widely agree'd as too soft for these applications, it was generally agreed the 6 psi spring is what was needed.

lastly did the outlet for the re-circ hook up straight to the intake pipe or do we need a smaller . larger diameter piping?

It's a BOV - no recirc. It's venting to atmosphere.

2 psi is what's necessary, and it's what the car is tuned to use. 6 psi can cause part throttle issues and put extra strain on the blower.

Below 3k rpm the BOV is almost inaudible, so it won't sound like the car is having an asthma attack on the highway.

glad you guys are experimenting and enjoying these cars....

in terms of the VT bpv i want to re-circ as much as as possible back into the s/c plumbing, any air back in helps imo. The whistle noise is alittle annoying but other than that its silent really which works well for me, i won't swap mine out until it fails.... George on this forum has reminded me many a times sometimes fixing something thats not broken leads to other issues!

pokey i can't lie that does sound great however, and the tial piece looks so nice under the hood!

Thanks for the kind words, and I get where you're coming from... however, this is not a PITA mod that only provides minimal enhancement. It's got a great $$$ (or Euro, or GBP, or Ruble) to smiles ratio. I should have done this a long time ago, even before the exhaust mods. It's that good, and it's fairly cheap (less than $300) and so easy to install.

The BPV versus BOV performance difference would make a good debate. Having seen first hand what happens when a pump overheats due to its fluid being constantly bypassed, I would side with a BOV being the better performer. I have a P3Cars digital vent gauge, so I could measure the difference in IATs when driving around at high rpm, but I'm not too keen to replace the brand new gasket I installed. The difference is probably minimal anyway.

For you, I would recommend the Turbosmart just because it's adjustable. I already knew I wanted a BOV, since I have one car that's silent (Tial QR bypass, non-M Z4), and one that's in the middle (G-Power Z4M).

Here's a rather dull video highlighting exactly why I made the switch from the squeaky bypass to the Tial:

as the air being dumped back into the system has been "cooled" anyway i can't agree on some points , end of the day any air back into the system just means less air to build boost in pipework or at least a helping hand. Theirs a reason why just about every manufacturer recircs air back into the system ( apart from the wanting them quiet) ....

Now.... i have to say that last video you made was REALLY interesting as it actually seems more comfortable in the cruising range, the whistle you highlighted did make my ears wince as its annoying no doubt, where-as the tial makes a gentle woosh and sounds much nicer for sure.

i can absolutely see why you made this switch, and if i did id probably go with the turbo smart setup for its dual use setup, however I'm not sure how to setup an adjustable bpv/bov to be honest.

does the tial unit get close to touching the hood as it "looks" like it sticks out further than the stock valve. if you get chance could you measure both the stock valve from the base of the flange to edge of the outer case and the same for the tial? sorry to be a pita, just wondering how much room this takes up if any more.

I am going to try one more thing….putting the Votech blow off valve filter on my existing set up.
I don't mind the post shift blow off whoosh, but I think any constant noise at 55 mph cruising will wear on me too much. But the whistle has to go!
Right now, I would be willing to spend another $600 to get back to where I was parts and labor costs ago.

The addition of a Vortech filter helped a little, but whistle is still unbearable when cruising at anywhere between 55mph and 70 mph. It looks a little better and adds protection against anything ever being sucked up that valve which probably never would happen.

Will just order the new Tial.

Update - clearance is very tight. I noticed the top of the BOV is nicked where it has come into contact with the underside of the hood. A smaller Greddy to Tial adapter would fix this.

I'm at the shop now because of a boost leak (unrelated to the bypass I believe). I'm guessing one of the main hoses came loose. This car has had the supercharger on for many miles and heat cycles, so I may need to start replacing some of the old parts.

The boost leak was due to a pipe on the intercooler deatching completely. I'll fix it next weekend.

i saw on one of the threads with ess kits someone had used the same Greddy adapter but its it and welded it back on at a different angle so the BOV is straight as opposed to pointing up slightly.

The adapter that came with the Tial is a weld on, but unfortunately I don't weld. So, I bought the Greddy adapter. Good call though on the clearance.

sorry i don't think i was clear, he used the same bolt on piece that you did, cut it and had it welded at a slight downward angel which straightened the valve once on the car.
