Ideas for swinging sun visor to driver window???
I'm a newbie Z4 owner..couple of months. I've read a lot of people complaining about the sun visor not swinging to the driver side window. I drive to work every morning for 30 minutes....straight south...which means the sun is staring at me through my driver window. As you probably can discern, as I head home, again 30 minutes, straight north...you guessed it, sun is straight out my driver window. Because of the run flat tires it's very dangerous to drive with one hand on the wheel and the other covering my eyes from the sun. I do wear sunglasses, but that doesn't really help with the sun to the side and very intense. What I guess I'm looking for is anyone that's made a modified visor, or second visor to the main one that swings. Also I'd like to see if anyone has had any experience with something bought from a store that will do the trick. Thanks to all in advance.

I'm an old person, but I wear the bulbous ones that make you look like a large fly.

I'm not really sure what some of you guys are thinking about when you reply to these threads. If you don't have any ideas...or if you don't seem to have the same problem as me, why post? I just don't get it. Anyway obviously tinting my windows is a good idea, although I haven't gotten to that yet and it won't solve my problem...but will help. I'm not going to wear a hat, turned to the side, and pulled down. I wonder if the BMW designers had that in mind when they created a non-swinging visor.
Guys I asked in the original post if anyone had any ideas about an additional visor that would clip on to the original one that would swing. I also asked if anyone has seen something for sale on a website that might serve the purpose that I'm looking for. Please if anyone has any ideas give me a reply, but if you don't....please don't waste your time. |

I doubt it would be overly difficult for a shop specializing in interiors to built something that would work for you. I'd be curious to see how the current visor mounts in detail. Maybe uninstall the visors and snap some pictures? This way we can really know what we're working with. I wouldn't be surprised if a change in the right side mount (for driver side) would allow it to rotate.

i know this may seem like such a small issue but i also know how very annoying this can get when you're on the road and it's that time of the day.. and some visors don't even swing sideways. while it's true that tints and the occasional sunglasses might help, i also understand the necessity of sun visors and the like. try looking them up online. like stylintrucks.com or maybe jcwhitney. you might even see if they have one compatible for your vehicle.

In a cost vs reward scenario, I highly doubt that the effort to make the visor swivel will pay off. The visor is *very* small. I remember the first time I flipped it down, I couldn't believe it. I think I've used my visor twice since then. Window tint is the way to go.

Hi
This has been my only complaint with my coupe. I finally broke down and bought Cocoon sunglasses that fit over my regular glasses. My idea for a sun shade is to make a thin slot in the headliner, maybe about a foot long, along the top of the door glass. Into this you would slide a thin plastic sheet. You would pull it down four or five inches like a window shade, when needed, and slide it up into the roof between the roof and headliner when you don't. I have no idea if there is space above the headliner along the door glass or if the slot in the headliner could be made so it would look good. |

That would work for coupes but unfortunately not roadsters with a folding top, which does need to swivel.
What's interesting is this hasn't been addressed with the new Z4's which have the exact same parts for the visors and trim around the window. Looks very out of place in an otherwise very updated and stylish interior. |
