Space Grey M Coupe Detailing & Video(s): OTDetailing

Thanks to another forum member and this thread here, I dropped my wifes X3 off at OTD recently. The awesome work Franki did and the video he created prompted me to bring back my DD. And finally the M coupe was last. Not only is his work incredible, but the unexpected time lapsed video's he created of his work were very cool too. I also thought they did a nice job laying out the core steps for any aspiring home detailer (like me) looking for education. Still hard to believe 1 person did all this.

And yes everything knsaber says about franki in the other thread is true. The imported towels are color coded and separately ziploc bagged, no dust allowed. and thats just the start of it all...

I've asked him to post his videos below, because it would take me 3 hours to figure out how to do it myself.
- The M coupe and the 540i had the 'Enhancement Detail'
- The X3 vid/slideshow shows a much more laborious process as it needed the more extensive 'Paint Correction'.
- The 540i is also more indepth than the M coupe (as the M needed less work).

At the end of the M coupe vid you'll see we had a little fun testing out some photography equipment on the car locally. Too bad he's moving from NJ to LA soon. Enjoy.

Wow, some great work. But you also seem to keep your cars in great shape OP. it makes detailing much more enjoyable when you have a good condition car to work with

Thats what I told him! his interior is the best I came across so far, all I did was dusting LOL. The X3 was a different story, but the 5 and the Z4M is immaculate inside, but I did add some ultima interior guard to protect from UVs rays and fresh spills.

There were few RIDs here and there on the Z4M and the 5, that I did polished, some came all out, some became less noticeable. Then put some waxes on and now its good for months ahead.

very kind.. this is because of the post Dubsesd posted a few weeks ago of his interior, prompted me to go out and completely clean everything. but I didnt do things like the pedals that you did Franki.

Extremely impressed! I wish I could find this type of detailer here in WPB. I really enjoyed the video and gave me good tips for myself. Thanks for sharing!

Awesome job, it takes time to do that type of stuff. Took me 3 days to do my car...

BTW - What rear spoiler do you have, OEM or Tekarbon? Looks awesome.

Looks awesome. I love looking at detail write ups or videos.

Has anyone here used a Porter Cable on their Z4? I bought everything last year like the Porter Cable, polishes, clay, Iron-x, etc. but didn't get around to actually polishing/paint correction.

I understand it's going to be much harder with a Porter Cable on a hard paint like BMW but wondering if anyone has experience using it. My car is covered in swirls all over although very light swirls and kinda hard to see on Montego Blue unless in the direct sun.

Yeah he spent many hours doing them. He had the X3 for 2 full days. I just counted 16 different steps taken on the X3, including 4 rinses.

The CF Spoiler is OEM, It was on the car when I got it, but here is the part number from realoem.com: 51710414770. I've only seen a few others here with it, I really like it too.

I've had / have been using my porter cable for 4-5 years now. Worked well for me on my old E36 M3 and works well when I use it on the Z4 was well. Granted my use on the Z4M is much more limited compared to the E36 M3 I had, which needed more attention as an older car. The Z4 needs much less correction since I've owned it since almost new and take care to clean it properly.

PC for me personally is good because I don't have to worry much about damaging the paint but it's better than hand polishing. I wouldn't trust myself with the heavy duty non-orbital-type machines as I'm sure I'd mess something up since I'm just an amateur working on my own cars.

My bottomline with it: As a DIYer it beats hand polishing; but if you need lots of major correction best get in touch with someone who is an expert like the guy in this thread.
GL.

Just bought the Meguiars MF correction kit for me my BSM Mcoupe... I've never tried MF pads so I'm pretty excited to give them a shot.
