Getting chilly here though. Only got up to 73 today.
But it's supposed to warm up for the weekend.

(I was born in Chicago and lived there for 40 years, so I know what you peeps are going through)

I'm just back from meeting the snow blower repair guy at the house who gave my 11hp snowblower some much needed work. We've got 100cm of snow down already and we're not even at the middle of January yet.

Still in the 80s here. Only a few small fires so far.
Oh, and did I mention the earthquakes? Got shaken awake at 1:30 AM.
And of course, there's the constant looming threat of sharknados.

Another day in Paradise

Two more earthquakes last night, and this was bound to happen.
No top down on the way in this morning.
I came within a couple miles of it shortly after I took this pic.
Sitting in a blizzard of ashes thinking
"I hope these are cold ... I wonder if Raggtopp is flammable ..."

The worst we've got down here in Austin is some solid fog... but even that just forms over the lakes.

70 degree cruisin weather. I think I have some pictures of the fog, it's pretty darn cool if you don't live in CA (because it's so common there).

Definitley snow tires on the car. Its a winter tire and rim package that the dealer offered when we picked up the car. Tires are Pirelli SottoZeros. Dunno how they compare to Blizzaks but if the Pirellis are crap, it shows just how good the 4Matic system is in the snow. And if you get studded snow tires, I expect you could almost scale vertical walls a la Spiderman LOL.

The air dam is low, yes. But unless you are ramming through deep heavy snow, with good sense and care, you should be okay. And besides, our salesman kept extoling the snow capabilities of this car so if the dam breaks (is there a joke here?), I'll insist that they address it under warranty.
Been driving the C300 lately and it's been doing fine on packed snow roads with just the all-seasons on it. Today the snow storm here moved in much sooner than forecast and I got caught at work with the MB. We had maybe 6" on the ground when I left. The MB plowed through it with no qualms. No tire spin, no squirrelly behavior, just planted confidence. We live a ways out of town and the plows hadn't hit our neighborhood yet, so the snow was quite deep. Not a problem. Although I wonder how it would have done had the snow been deeper than the front spoiler.

The front spoiler on these cars is pretty darn solid so unless you hit something hard, it should handle soft snow. For folks in northern climates, the C is a great winter car; it seems to laugh at snow. And the V-6 does make a lovely rumble as you motor along.

There is a bit of a steep hill on the way home to my house and in our 4 snow tire-equipped front wheel drive Accord, its an adventure to see if the car will get up over it. Usually lots of steering wheel input, wheel slip and maneuvering is needed to do so. But in the C, she goes up easy and straight as an arrow; a squeeze on the gas pedel is rewarded with a throaty growl and firm acceleration. Ya gotta love that.
