as it's -13°F right now with the wind chill around -35, I've decided to change my will...

"If, by any fault of Jan 6th, 2014 being colder than Nords' Balls outside, Eric dies, then the members of ZPost can have his stereo."

my lawyer congratulates and sympathizes.

This is the first time I regret not having my X5. Not that I would try to go anywhere today. Most of the major roadways here are closed and they haven't even tried to clear the secondary roads.

We've got 100 cm (over 3 feet) of snow on the ground here. The wife's new C Class 4matic has been utterly brilliant in the snow; the car is simply unstoppable. No wheelspin, sliding or slipping - it just goes where you ask it to.

The provinical power utility though has made a complete mess of the province's power infrastructure here so now its old, crappy and barely adequate to meet demand even when its not that cold out. Rolling blackouts and equipment failures since last Thursday mean that power is highly unreliable. What a great bunch. And now freezing rain for tonight.

Help.

It's currently 76°, on it's way to a high of 80°.
But the humidity is 4.5% and dropping, and we have a high probability of bursting into flames before the day's out.

I had that problem when I had the Z4. During the morning commute the sun was in the east and hitting the right side of my face as I drove north. In the afternoon on my way home the sun was in the west and hitting the right side of my face as I drove south. The right side of my face was always sunburned unless I remembered to use sunblock.

Mine's been sitting in my garage. We've been using Wifey's Civic with snow tires, but it's only FWD and doesn't do all that well. Do you have snows on the C-class? If so, which ones? I may have to break down and buy some Blizzacks for the MB, although the low air dam in front still worries me with the deeper snow.

OMG - you should be driving the Merc!! Its worth it just for the thermonuclear heated seats!

Definitley snow tires on the car. Its a winter tire and rim package that the dealer offered when we picked up the car. Tires are Pirelli SottoZeros. Dunno how they compare to Blizzaks but if the Pirellis are crap, it shows just how good the 4Matic system is in the snow. And if you get studded snow tires, I expect you could almost scale vertical walls a la Spiderman LOL.

The air dam is low, yes. But unless you are ramming through deep heavy snow, with good sense and care, you should be okay. And besides, our salesman kept extoling the snow capabilities of this car so if the dam breaks (is there a joke here?), I'll insist that they address it under warranty.

Thanks. I've used Pirellis in the past and have been happy. I never went with the Blizzacks because I had a 110 mile commute and would burn through them too quickly. But now that my commute is 5 miles r/t, I think they'd be fine. Need to find a good wheel/tire package at Tire Rack. Wifey misses the heated seats.

Only the low 20s here in Central Texas. Should be in the Low 60s again here soon.

My companies terminals are out in those elements and I've been talking to some guys out in South Dakota... It doesn't seem pleasant.

For my Miatas and now my M I've always run the sport/performance versions of Dunlop, Bridgestone and now Michelin winter tires. And to be honest, I haven't/don't really venture out in the snow that much with them. I have the winters on so I can drive it confidently during the cold months and just in case it snows and I get caught somewhere. I did venture out in the M in the snow a few weeks ago (was a beautiful day for a mountain bike ride in the snow) and while it did OK, it was pushing often in corners on the snow covered roads. Certainly didn't feel confident enough to "hoon" it around and put it in the body shop (...I think I just admitted to being "old",...sucks)

So, my question is, did you go with Blizzak LM or WS? If the WS, how do they handle in the dry? Do you find them a bit too soft for "spirited" driving?
