A/C expansion valve replacement DIY?

My A/C is only blowing hot air and according to a mechanic who looked at my car, he determined that the expansion valve and o-rings need to be replaced. Is there a DIY for this so that I don't have to pay labor?

If your A/C is only blowing hot air it could be that it just needs regassing.

I had mine regassed when I bought it for about $50.
Unfortunately it can't be done DIY as you're not allowed to release the gas into the atmosphere (Australian laws - could be different over there)

I tried recharging it but it didn't need it... A mechanic said the expansion valve is probably shot based on the symptoms.

Garage List
I just replaced all the AC lines in my old 350Z. Its an easy job to do yourself. Just order the part that you need online and reinstall. Just don't use an oil on the o-rings and tighten back to factory specs. I saved a ton of money but just make sure you have someone vacuum out the lines and then add the gas. You could have the shop take the charge out of your line for you since I found out the gas was like $75 per pound lol. Shouldn't take you very long since the engine bay is so wide open. I had to remove all of upper turbo kit to reach mine
