Dyno day tomorrow

Any predictions on power? The dyno is a Dyno Dynamics so I am hoping for 270whp-280whp. I have read they tend to read a little lower. There will be 20 plus E46 and E92 M3s all getting dynos too so I should be able to see how I stack up against other cars with various degress of modification.

A couple of questions-

1. What is the best gear to get the most accurate read since I have a 4.10 LSD? 3rd or 4th?

2. I know I need to make sure tire pressure is correct. Anything else?

I plan to video with my shiny new Canon 5D Mark II so I will pos later.

Wish me luck and feel free to share any advice to ensure an accurate read.

i have a question about your 4.10 rear. it is a mod i would love to do... but all i have read has left me a little confused... are my options to 1. buy a complete rear diff. case and all 2. buy just a ring/pinion and have them installed into my current diff housing? i'm just trying to get a better understanding. BTW, have fun tomorrow! jealous.

My threshold for expensive risk is pretty low. That is why I did the core swap method. If it fails, I just swap for another core which is an easy fix. Yes it costs more but the piece of mind is worth it in my book. Also, I would not trust many people to rebuild my dif. correctly. BTW, EPbrown had a Dinan 3.91 fail...I bet he was glad he did the core swap method.

i appreciate the advice! core swap, they send you a rebuild rear diff, you send them your old one once the new is installed, and they refund you a deposit you pay up front... is that the idea? shipping must cost a fortune.

I think shipping is wrapped into the price of the diff - I wasn't charged separately for it. In any case, the shop I had it done at had the diff on hand, so there was no shipping or deposit.

I've got no problem with having the original rebuilt with the new gears, In fact, I'd have preferred keeping my own brand new diff rather than get one that's who knows how old, and I've have also liked paying half as much. But when I asked around on ALL the forums for a trusted shop in Chicago, no one recommended a shop to do the rebuild. In fact, every recommendation was to do the swap at the shop I (and Burt) used.

Adam, isn't there a Turner Motorsport near Boston that you can go to?

Just got back.

I did 277 whp on a dynodyanamics with no correction. Stock E46 M3s did 240whp-250. 3 E46 M3s with headers and various brands of exhausts/softwared did: 255whp(must have had an issue), 269whp, 273whp. I had the highest dyno of all the S54 dynos by a mile- Yeah! Also a new E92 M3 with cat delete and exhaust did 331whp. They said a stock E92 M3s did 310-320(I am guessing closer to 320 though) on this dyno. Oh and a chipped stage 1 juicebox 135 with exhaust did 245whp.

I provided all the other numbers b/c some might say it looks low but this dyno reads really-really low. Guys in the 260s were hitting 300+ on the Dynojets. Apparently this dyno also read less than Mustang dynos too.

Also my Torque curve was flat as can be so I can attest that ESS tune and headers/supersprint does not lose torque down low.

Nice! You need to post these results up on some of the M3 forums to put to rest the myth that our cars dyno much lower than their beloved e46s

Nahh...no need to start any junk. Enough of that dyno waving junk with the turbo crowd. These guys were friends and thats the last thing I want to do.

Thanks MMMazing07! I am surprised others have not gone with them on the coupe, they are reasonable for forged wheels, really strong and super light. I am having them touched up this coming Saturday so they will look mint shortly.

No trips to the dragstrip. I do plan on taking some track lessons this summer. I have a picture of the E92 M3 run but only a printout of mine.
