Fabspeed headers install

Fabspeed headers going on today

Everything started out not very smoothly unfortunately, removing the old headers found the Constant Pressure Valve leaking and some of the nuts started coming out with the studs as well... oh well, little hiccups I thought.
Then more problems, after the headers went on they are contacting the transmission.

Decided in the end to do this rather than bend the pipes.

I am sure the majority will disagree with what I decided to do. I am posting this mostly to see if and how everyone else dealt with their possible fitment issues.

Install is still ongoing but there are further issues with the method I decided to use to avoid CEL until I get a tune. I am not sure if anyone has tried before but I decided to give it a go with a pair of "J-Pipes"

I will update this once I have everything running... hopefully.

I don't feel so bad now for having to do that. Worst thing is after bolting everything up it was time to install the J-Pipes. However, because of their curved design there was no clearance to tighten them... so everything had to come back out and have the J-pipes put on the headers first before bolting up again.

I'm in the middle of a CSL header install right now (wife went into labor Tuesday so I had to put the project on hold ). When/if your studs come out during removal of the nuts are you guys torquing them to a specific value or just putting them back snug?

I'll have to take a look at mine but I didn't have issues with that part on the transmission like you two did.

The rest of the install went pretty well, had to cut a hole into the shield that goes back on top of the headers. I am not sure if others did or if they just didn't end up putting it back on.

I haven't really driven the car yet, just in a parking lot since it's still waiting for the coilovers to go on next week before it goes on the road.

First impressions though... considering I already had RPi mufflers on, the volume is LOUD !!! Very very loud. And naturally it feels like it breathes much better.

I'll post another update once I start driving the car as well as progress on the J-pipes

I was able to bend it a bit to get it on, but with coated headers, I decided to leave the shield off.

Nice work, sorry I didn't get the other ones removed that you had pm'd me about. I bent the shield up to clear the headers and had to trim the boss on the transmission as well

I was actually considering that, however with them being catless I figured it would be best to keep them as covered up as possible.

Nothing to be sorry about with the headers. I've been eyeing the camber plates you posted though, but I'm already way over my mod budget for this year.

I've successfully used the o2 spacer bung on my S2000 and it prevented a check engine light and properly allowed secondary o2 / primary catalyst readiness to set. I am interested to hear the results of how they work out on the Z4M because I want to get rid of the stock headers, mainly because of the cats in them, but I don't really want to do much else on top of that to be able to pass emissions.

Congrats again on the header install. Enjoy the new power.

Let me know if I can tempt you in any way on the camber plates. We all know mod budgets are like rules, they're meant to be broken.

Wanted to update this in case anyone was wondering about check engine light with the O2 spacers.

First drive with the car after the headers went on the check engine light came on within 100km (Inefficiency Bank 1 and 2 Post-cat Lambda sensor) , and every time I cleared it, would come on every ~50km after that initial CEL.

After a few weeks I went back and decided to put even more restriction into the spacer by adding steel wool inside (The J-Pipe is hollow other than the restrictor opening at the end). Engine light did not return until after a track day and about 150km of driving (It did however achieve readiness for Emissions within this period of time). And after clearing it, now comes on again every ~50km.

I am still determined to make this work however, and will update as it goes on if there is interest.
