2nd Gear Issue Re-post!

I know im going to get shit for making a new thread about it but quite honestly im dont care, im not going to search for it.

Ive done everything i think i could do to remedy this stupid grind from first to 2nd gear and it still happens! Is it possible that some cars have it worse than others? Id really like to think its not my driving, Ive been driving manual cars for more than 10 years and for countless miles, id like to think i know what im doing.

The mods ive done are CDV delete; RP synchromax swap; UUC SSK; RE tranny mounts and clutch stop properly adjusted. AND on top of all these mods i always use the firm to the left shifting technique i read in one of the earlier threads. last night i ripped 1st gear , shifted right on redline (which should be np for a $65k M car right??) and it grinded horribly. Im fed up. Has anybody done anything that completely fixed it because if i cant find an answer to it at this point im selling the thing and getting something else. I refuse to bring it to the dealer because i know they wont do anything for me. The car just hit 30k. Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated!!

I think the only mod you're missing that might help is the RE engine mounts.

I just avoid hammering it in 1st gear, but I agree this is a problem with our cars.

I've got the CDV delete, and mounts and still have this problem on spirited shifts, I've learned to take it easy on the 1-2. It's definitely a problem with our cars, especially when you get into a slide or wheel hop, but just the nature of the beast.

If you've added a new clutch stop so as to shorten the clutch-pedal travel then you've probably made the problem worse as the extra travel in the stock pedal adds that extra fraction of a second needed to give the synchros time to speed up.

One tip: pull back and LEFT for second gear; pulling straight back seems to increase likelihood of grinding.

Just listen. Slight pause makes the difference

the clutch stop i dont think matters because it grinded before and after install AND it was the last mod i did. I have noticed if i wait the extra second it dosent do it as often. However should we really have to wait that extra second?? There has to be something out there to fix it. The Motor mounts dont do anything because ive driven a z4m with them+my mods and it still grinds.

I'm not aware of any cure for this. We don't have the E46 transmission and the one we do have has a few well known quirks. Pulling to the left with a bit of pause is the best there is to offer. It's just not going to let us play with first that way. Which sucks, but for me there are so many offsetting pluses I don't find it a deal breaker. If it is for you, I get it. What to replace her with though?

The only time it ever did it to me was when I was being sloppy and not paying attention.

Assuming you're not the first owner, perhaps whomever had it before you never properly adjusted their driving technique to correct the grind and ended up actually damaging the synchros so that now it's almost impossible not to grind.

I got the car with 8k on the clock. I dunno, i guess ill just deal with it and swap out next summer depending on where i am financially. Seperate issue but has anybody had the passenger side headlight fixed successfully under cpo warranty? Thats next on my list to fix. If its not covered i might send them out to tekarbon. Any thoughts or experiences?

What kind of an issue for headlight?

Moisture getting into lens? If so simply remove the plastic cover, and get some vasaline, put it around the rubber seal, use liberal amounts and put it back together. After couple days, moistures should go away.
