I have a feeling to really get the most of a high duration cam you need to raise the rev limiter to 8500 which require revised valvetrain

296/280 cams and a tune will give you about 370 hp, so a gain of 27 hp. I wouldn't raise the rev limiter that much unless the valve springs were changed.

Ohkay.. looks like I've just put the finger on my next mod… and will probably do the Vanos at the same time.. probably best while the engine is open.. 288/280 or 296/280 it is..
if i go the 288/280 cams will i need new arms and followers too? or can i use my current ones?

All header pipes are 2" and feed to 2.5", the rest of the exhaust is as you said, 2.5" the rest of the way back. I can reconfirm with photos when I go back but that won't be until next week as I'm out in the field this week (military).
