more wheel questions - front width (which is better)

hello all,

2008 m coupe;

going to have some wheels made directly from bbs motorsports.... was wondering everyones thoughts on front wheel width and offset?

so initially told bbs what I drove, was replied with 8.5inch wide front and 10inch wide rear, I wrote back and asked if a 9inch front was possible, and was quoted yes it was....

so my question to all of you is...is there a better choice? I would think there is absolutely zero performance benefit of going wider to the 9inch.....is this correct?

i know our stock staggered fitment is 1inch different front and rear(18x8 front and 18x9 rear) am I weird to think the 1.5inch difference is odd? or is this quite common?

what does everyone then think....8.5inch front or 9inch front? the 8.5 would be et32 the 9 would be et35.

Performance benefit for street? Not really. What are you trying to achieve and what is the application?

And, width is only part of the equation, the other part is offset. What are the offsets for the wheels you plan to use?

Have a look at this thread. It should answer quite a few questions, and has a link to an offset calculator.

If you still have questions, then fire away.

Hi there!

I went with 9f/9.5r when I changed wheels. I wanted to run the 245/275 tire sizes and it works great! I agree with the "not putting to wide of tire on to not enough wheel" camp.

thanks for the couple replies.

finnegan, not really trying to achieve anything per say;

i think bbs motorsports go with a "flush" setup per previous discussions;

i think i listed the specs they provided

they have now given me two front options;

18x8.5 et 32
18x9 et 35

which is the better option?

rear will be 18x10 regardless.

is a 1.5inch staggered difference odd? i know stock is only 1inch different...

do I run 235 front on the 8.5? even the 9 possibly...

and then a 265 or 275 on the rear?

tires are going to be michelin pilot supersport

**my main concern is figuring out what I go with....

bbs motorsports provided the specs based simply on me telling what I vehicle they are going on, I made no mention of what I wanted etc...

18x8.5 and 18x10

235 front and 275 rear. rolling diameter should be close to exact on both sets

Garage List
^ +1 That is a common, and good looking setup. Not considering 19's then?

I'm running:

- 19x8.0 front offset ET 47 (12mm spacer) with 245/35's
- 19x9.5 rear offset ET 27 with 285/30's

245-40/275-35 set or 235-40/265-35 set is closer size Front and Rear. I always run 245/275 to be closer to the OE size but still smaller.

235-45/265-40 set can be run as well but they're larger than OE sizing. Of course, it all depends on the tire you select as well.

What are you going to do with your e88 19" ?

so everyone is saying the 8.5front and 10rear is optimal?

i personally am having a hard time wrapping my head around the difference, for whatever reason, considering stock is 1" difference width between front and rear....I just figure 9inch front and 10inch rear would be better? but bbs motorsport themselves recommend the 8.5front

thanks for all the help everyone, wheels are getting ordered next week, should be here 1-2 weeks after that.

zed4mr what 19" e88? not me??
