Lambda probe (11787540167)
Does anyone know if these pre-cat oxygen sensors (2008 Z4M) are "wide band"?
Would like to have an in-dash air/fuel ratio display, but I'm more than usually clueless about the procedure. If they are wide-band, it would be tempting to somehow tap into their output, without disturbing the ECU input. Any insight? Thanks, Ted. Last edited by wyshyvanuk; 08-28-2023 at 04:56 PM.. I put a wide band O2 sensor in one of the vacant front of header sensor holes so I could have air/fuel ratio in the cab. S54 engine.
The ECU and tune are so reliable that I stopped looking at it, when you gun it the mixture is richer so the ratio goes to 11-12 then back up to 14.7 where it almost always sits, let off the gas pedal and it leans out a bit, 16-17 then back to 14.7 I finally removed it.

They are 6-wire Bosch wideband sensors. You won’t be able to tap into any of the wires and get useful data due to the way wideband sensors work. Wideband sensors require a controller to output anything meaningful.
You could read lambda over K-Line if you know what to look for and have the tools. It’s better to have a standalone sensor and controller such as an Innovate LC-2. Calculated AFR can be displayed with a P3Cars digital vent gauge. Or, you could get an Innovate LM-2 and mount the display in the cabin. Just don’t leave the sensors installed in the exhaust but electrically unpowered; otherwise, they will foul quickly.

1. Looks like both of my pre-cat holes are occupied by sensors. Are the holes on Canadian headers blocked off?
2. I was hoping for a "trust-but-verify" approach with the G-Power Supercharger. But I should probably go for a full Severn Tuning approach and call it a day. Pokey rocks!! 3. I was looking for a way to spend even more $$ on the Z4. The search continues ;~). |
