Lower top with key

What buttons do you have to press on your key to lower the top? I had the car keys in my pocket and I bent down to take pictures of my car. When I got to my car, the top was down! I know I didn't leave them up. As you can see in the pic, the top is coming down. Weird. I didn't know my car could do this.

Sounds strange as it is pretty hard to do by accident. Press unlock, release then press again and hold to lower the top.

I think the key has to be coded for this, only one of mine would do it.

If you get a smartTop controller its easier to put the top down with the key. Only have to click the unlock button 3 times and no holding it down the whole time. Also allows for 1 touch of opening and closing the top from inside the car so you dont have to hold it down and you can operate it while driving.

LOVE my smart top - still one of the best mods I have done. Can raise and lower while driving at slower speeds, so you can hit the button as you are pulling into a parking spot and it is all closed up as you get out. If you decide at a stop light that it is top down weather, you don't have to worry of the light changes before you are done. As Nate said, just one button push and release and the top goes up or now. With the top up, you can hit the top up button again to roll both windows up automatically. With the top down, you can hit the top down button to roll both windows up or down automatically. Press unlock and hold for a sec and it unlocks the door and rolls down and rolls down the windows. Hit lock and hold for a sec and it locks the car and rolls up the windows. Well worth the money and pretty easy to install!

For the USA, the user is not allowed to use the remote to close windows, and probably the top. My guess is because americans are sue happy and if someone was hurt putting a windows up with the remote they would try to sue the manufacturer. With that said, I enabled the close windows with remote feature on my E86 , which looks like it would work for the top on E85.

Here's the coding:

KOMFORTSCHLIESSUNG_FB - COMFORT CLOSING WITH REMOTE CONTROL (POWER WINDOWS, SUNROOF OR CONVERTIBLE TOP)
set this to "aktiv - enabled"

Sometimes it pays to RTFM.
The user manual clearly specifies:
Convenience opening
Hold the unlock button down.
Coupe: the windows are opened.
Roadster: the windows and the fully automatic
convertible top* are opened.

What m3griff said or just RTFM which says:
Convenience operation
You can also operate the windows and the
Roadster's fully automatic convertible top* via
the door lock.
Hold the key in the position for unlocking or
locking.
Watch the closing process to ensure that
no one is trapped. Releasing the key
stops the operation.<

If you want to close it with the remote try coding it as stated in my post above.
