Flat spots don't happen on Radial tires from sitting. That's a bias ply issue. It amazes me this still gets brought up as a problem.

Gotta disagree. While flat spotting is not as much an issue with low aspect ratio tires, many 65, 70, and 80 series radials certainly are prone to storage flat spots.

I had 60s on my MR2 that I would store when I was back in Chicago and it took a week of hard driving to get them back to being round in the spring.
Subsequent years of storage I put it up on stands and took the wheels off.

I lay down roofing tar paper on the floor to keep the moisture down in my garage, as a roll of that paper is cheap.

Pull the battery and it comes into the house.

Car sits on crappy tires on the original 18" wheels, so not caring about that.

My condolences guys...here in Atlanta I'll drop the top, heated seats, direct the heat towards my hands and drive around in 40 degree weather.

I've heard it's an old wives tale that cold kills batteries...I understand it's the heat that kills them. The heat wears 'em out and then they fail in the winter.

-6 degrees and salty as an overtaxed Libertarian here in Wisconsin. Fortunately my Toyota is taking all the salt for the team.

I'm with Clubracer here in Atlanta. It gets cold, but not really cold enough to store the car. I just keep it in the garage with a tender if I am not going to drive it for a couple of weeks.

Here in NH we are cold and snowy. Right now it's 4 degrees with a wind chill of 9 below. Car is in a climate controlled 100K sq ft facility with 500 other cars. All have tenders and pads under the tires. Car's happy, I'm happy. Pull it out in April.

Are you fabulously wealthy, or is that a shared space?

a couple of pics for the topic:

if you look closely you may be able to see the battery tender behind the driver mirror with the status light glowing green while the car waits patiently for spring. Until then, the red Honda blower will be seeing use (and I hope not too much).

You could almost submit that picture for the annual Z4 calendar. It would be a good winter shot!

No worries. It's 4 deg. here in central Virginia today. I'll just walk outside, startup the si Coupe crank up the heated sport seats and enjoy the 24,000 ft-lb/deg. drive to work.

My routine for the last 13 winters has been oil change, top up with ethanol free gas, stabilizer, breathable cover, climate controlled storage with lots of rodent protection, maintainer on the battery, detail before going away, boost air pressure in tires, fabric softener sheets in cabin and trunk. Goes away in November out in April.
