If not Hankooks, then what?
I'm looking to replace my Hankook RS3's and it appears there's a general shortage. Needed sizes not available until 4/30 according to TireRack. I thought I'd go with the Dunlop Star Spec's instead. Are there any other tires I should consider? For track days and to/from track. Not interested in R-comps at this time. Preferred sizes are 235/40 and 265/35 on stock rims. Thanks for any suggestions.

Dunlops. The new "Star Spec" is a great tire. Better than the old Star Spec and more than up to track work. I'd venture to say at least the equivalent of the RS3. I don't recommend NT05s as they are downright scary in the wet, drop off quickly in grip with use.

BFG Rival. Except they'll be 245F/275R.
I drove a friend's Ford Focus ST "angry" for about 3 laps, shod with Rivals. They're LEAPS better than most of your Extreme Summers. There's enough tread so you won't get stranded when it's wet. It's a very thinly disguised R-Comp pretending to be street tire.

Other than the options already mentioned:
RE-11 Federal RSR Achilles 123s ^ Not too sure if they have the exact sizes you want though

RE-11As for sure. I ran through 2 sets of RS-3s and really liked the performance, even in the wet. However, the RE-11As are superior in every way so far (haven't yet driven in the rain, so can't comment there). The RE-11As are a much quieter tire, very, very noticeable. Just as good or better performance in the dry (I moved and re-tired there, so can't compare to some of my fav drives).
I would highly recommend the RE-11A as having been a former RS-3 fan. |

On the times, it is a much slower tire. It does not communicate well. Look at the RE-71R. It is going to be leaps and bounds over that tire |

I've ran Federal RSR last year in autox on my E36. Decent dry grip but in the rain, car feels like it's on ice!
