DME Help please
Gents, UPS was nice enough to lose my DME when I shipped it to ESS to get the tune adjusted (build thread: http://www.zpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=933644) I have the M54B30 Engine
The P/N is 12147548769 for a 2005 Z4 3.0i - it seems to be discontinued so I have two questions. 1. Are there DME's from other BMW's that will work? 2. What do I have to do with the non-original DME in order to get it to work in the car? I understand this impacts ignition and just about EVERYTHING else...

Why not try Ebay, and have the dealer reprogram it?

That's what I'm asking pokey. What model/type of DME can I use and can a dealer reprogram it to work with MY current setup? Anyone know what the dealer might charge?

You can use one out of any car that takes the MS45.0 DME. BMW sells a refurbished one for your car, part # 12147561381. I know the BMW X3 used that same controller, and the 325i did.
Dealers don't like to work with used parts because of the warranty issue. Here's one for $120 http://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-E83-E85-...c68711&vxp=mtr Unfortunately, purchasing a used DME unit is only the beginning. The DME has to be mated to the car's CAS module for your keys to work. There are some places that claim to be able to reprogram used DME modules and possibly mate them to your original CAS module so that your keys will work and everything will be back to where it was. www.ecudoctors.com is one, but I know nothing about them. Hopefully UPS is paying for the lost DME. They may also be liable for the additional costs that you will have if you go through a BMW dealer. The remanufactured DME for your car is $1146.00, and to flash it and match it with CAS module will also add to the cost. Last edited by Jstic; 02-14-2014 at 02:34 PM.. |

Can you elaborate on 'may be liable for additional costs'? IF it's beyond the insurance value I placed on the package?

Well crap, just got this back from the local dealership:
BMW states a DME cannot be reprogrammed-only can be used with the original car. We have heard of people trying a used one from another car with some success if it is close enough-but we don’t reprogram. Keith Kotera-Markel BMW parts. |
