Seat Belt Chafing
I just bought a 2003 BMW Z4 3.0i, and the second day driving the car, the seat belt kept "Chafing" my neck. So I just bought two "Pads" that you can place on the seat belt. Works pretty good, but my only issue is that I still know that there is something there. I have only had this issue with this car. Did, or dose anyone had the same experience, and what did you do to solve that issue??
Thank You. |

The pink one is the best IMO.

I had the same problem when I purchased mine. I never bought a pad though. I think the problem is the angle of your seat. It took me the first week or so to find the sweet spot, but it's there. That or you just get used to it.

I put a small bolt with a large head through the seat belt guide with a nut on the back so that it holds the seat belt lower over my shoulder instead of my neck... Saw it in another thread. I think it was better than what I did but same idea and I just found what I needed in my toolbox.

Hmmm...Very interesting idea about working with your tool box there. For the life of me, I'm unable to understand making a car in the year of 2003 these people just didn't about creating an adjustable seat belt. But if you look at the hard tops, they made those adjustable so I know someone was thinking. I have had Plenty of cars in my life, with issues of their own. But never a issue where the seat belt is trying to saw your head off. Granted, I have only had this car for two days now, and when I got in the car this morning, I moved that seat a thousand ways to Sunday and it was still there. It's just that I'm unable to have any comfort in this car when I drive, and I'm always pulling at it to get it off my neck every Five seconds. Funny that I did not notice that at all when I was test driving the car. Live and learn I suppose, and I'll soon jump back in a '05 or '06 MBZ CLK-500....

Yep, I was on ebay and looked at that "CARBON FIBER". But my question is what is the best or the two...Carbon Fiber or the regular "Regular". Somehow "Carbon Fiber" brings to mind something that is very stiff and uncomfortable. (And when I do buy a second pair, and it seems that they all have some-type of Logo on it) I'll go with the easy Z4 or BMW and not something that denotes a car which I'm not driving. Please, malice was not intended......

I had the same problem, the seat belt chafes on my neck when I'm wearing a t-shirt. I don't have the problem with a collared shirt or when I have a jacket on. I went to a local shop that makes lambs wool seat covers and they had a black lambs wool seat belt cover that works great, kind of like this:
I only use it if I have to drive a long distance while wearing a t-shirt. Short hauls are OK.

Actually the pad he pictured would pull the shoulder belt lower - away from your neck. It is made for kids because they are so short. Obviously not the color you want, but one in black would do the job you ask.

Yep, I figured it out for 20.00 dollars. I bought two padded devices that wrap around the upper seat belt. Now mt z4 can't try to cut my head off....

You could try reversing the path of seatbelt, as shown below

Yea the seat belt seems to be really tight around the neck area. I've owned a 07' 3.0 and now 06' Z4m and both have same issues. I just buy the cheap seat belt pads on ebay to fix the problem lol.
These are the one i've bought. http://www.ebay.com/itm/2X-Black-Car...92352483&rt=nc

Question to all you that have the Z4 M Roadster. That's 338bhp, correct?? I didn't even think of the "M" class when I was looking. I was looking through "AutoTrader" and I never saw that car unless in went under a different name. Now that care has some get up and GO to it.

I too have been neck chafed by the roadster seatbelts. I admit it. Lady friend also complained of being 'choked' by my belt - although not the kind that is enjoyable to her. Kinky!
Got me a set of these Loopos from Amazon - 20 bucks for 4 - basically higher end clothespins that loosen the belt choke effect and allow it to simply droop - plus it keeps the wrinkles away on shirts. http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...L._SL1132_.jpg

About the BMW's. I have always known that they had the "M" series, but not for the Z4. Fist off it was a "Fluke" that I found the Z4. I was looking to move up the MBZ CLK-500 Convertible. I always told myself that I would NEVER own a BMW because I dis liked the people that drove them. I was searching through someones inventory, and it stuck out like a red thumb. So I went back on my "Word" and bought the BMW. I'm quite happy with the car. It's Fantastic. Handling, Torque, and the get up and go when I need to pass someone, or getting on to the freeway. But best of all is driving the Malibu Cyn. roads very early in the morning when no one is there.
