Scanguage II / Ultraguage

Looking for owners who can give me some detail on their experience with either the Scanguage II and/or the Ultra Guage, in the Z4 2003-2005 (in my case 2003).

I did some searching and did't really come across much on the Scangauge II in the Z4 and I found nothing on UltraGuage. I think I saw something that said that the Scanguage II can reset codes, (yes I am aware of the potential history loss). I did however come across other tools that people are using however I am interested in experiences with either of the two listed above.

Thanks Much!!

Both the ScanGauge and UltraGauge are general purpose OBD readers. They will read/reset general emissions codes but won't read/reset BMW-specific codes (the airbag codes come to mind).

If all you're doing is reading and resetting general emissions codes and error codes, any OBDII compliant reader should be fine. The fancier ones will give you a little bit more information about the error, but I wouldn't say thats really very useful given how easily you can put the code into google and get far more information specific to your car.

Does anyone use the scangauge/ultragauge to monitor fluid temps and pressures? I want to monitor coolant temp, oil pressure, etc. and would like to avoid installing analog gauges and additional sensors if possible.

A Bluetooth or WiFi OBD adapter and any of several apps will get you coolant temp.
I use a KiWi WiFi and DashCommand on an iPod. UltraGauge Blue looks similar.
The ///M doesn't have an analog oil pressure sender, unless you add one yourself, so no joy there.

Thanks. Is the Z4M oil temp gauge pretty "accurate" or does it just pretty much stay pointed straight up unless it's seriously overheated? The gauge will move above and below centerline for me, during autocross and track.

AFAIK all of the OBD apps can only read "standard" info, and the oil temp is under a BMW specific address.
Was never able to get it in DashCommand, so I can't say if the dash gauge is accurate.
Of course, the dash gauge isn't very precise. In another thread we've been talking about it being at "11:30" on a cool day and "12:30" on a hot day.

I've got a Canbus cable but have been hesitant to solder the pins (7 & 8 as I recall) since my car is running fine and I just would kill myself if I brick the ECU. So convince me, is there any danger to me killing it if something goes wrong with the pin soldering?

Yeah, I'm a wuss (two teenagers in the house...just don't need any more headaches!).

I've checked my USB cable and it does have 7 and 8 connected together.
Used it with INPA, DIS, Progman, NCS many times without trouble.
Not sure about the KiWi. Never checked it.
