Is this a good deal?

https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...nZHVTJWUHJKNwA

I like the car. I like the interior but am unsure if it is factory. It has a manual top which means the motor isnt going to wear out but is it a pain to operate? I am looking for advice in what to look for in a used Z.

It is a factory non leather interior(I think is called "sport akitiv" or something like that). Pretty clean looking car with low mileage for an 06. I think it is worth a look. As you said the manual top means no issues with the motor. Probably not a "pain" but certainly not as convenient as a power top.

The bottom of that page lists a red M Roady with 40k miles for $25k. That looks like a better deal.

I've never actually seen one with a manual top. I know they made them just never saw one. I had a Mazda MX-5 which had a manual top. It was easy to operate but was just a pain to do so. Every time we pulled into a gas station or something like that such as a store, we'd have to put the top up and down. Just a pain.

I don't know if the manual top works any different than putting it up manually on a none manual car. However when my top motor died I was doing it manually for a while. Honestly as a daily driver it was a pita. Enough that I eventually coughed up the $$ to get the motor replaced.

However now that its a weekend/nice day car it may not be as bad as the top usually stays down all the time.

^^^ yep my car is manual top and it takes all of 10 seconds to put up or down.

I don't intentionally drive it in the rain so the top is always down.

I would have to say that is a decent price for that car.
I think the interior works with the exterior color, classic silver and blue

I would certainly think the manual top cars are not the same as operating the power top manually.

This would be a secondary vehicle, toy for lack of a better word so I would think I could deal with the top. The dealer is not willing to negotiate price so it is what it is. Personally I feel they are asking top money for the car considering the lack of options.

I second WAMz4 in that the Red M at the bottom of the page is the much better buy... If your willing to pay that much for your toy. At 40k much more value for your $
Good luck with your search!

Depends on what you budget is. You can get a 06 or later loaded Z4 with lower miles for around 20k if you look. My first was a 2006 3.0si with 30k miles, bought for 20k. The power roof is nice. 06 forward fixed issues with flooding.

Wow, that's a gorgeous car for only $14k! I can't believe they won't negotiate a little, I guess they think they are CarMax crooks? Honestly, I'd get that car over a Z4M anyday for half the price. I bet it has almost the same amount of fun without the worries that come from operating the S54. As far as the top goes, I'd rather have a manual top over power. It's one less expensive thing to break and the inconvenience really isn't much.

Also, I didn't see it mentioned in the ad, but does the car have a BBK on the front? I see red calipers that look much larger than normal. That would be another great selling point for me. Hell, if I'd have seen this car back in July when I bought my ///M, I probably would have got this one instead. Nice car!

For reference, I just bought a 2007 3.0i 68k miles for $13,500, so this car is competitive. My car was loaded, sport pkg, everything except nav. I bought the car in FL sight unseen. I got slightly burned because it had one key, no owners manual, and drivers cup holder and center console latch were broken. No biggie, but I learned a lesson.

My car has a top motor but frankly I'd prefer the peace of mind of having no motor. Like you, this is a weekend car and I probably won't spontaneously drop the top on the road.

1. Spoken by someone who sounds like they've never owned an S54.. and not even close to "almost the same".

2. Who's worried? Going on 8 years of rock-solid reliability.

To the OP: that car looks really nice, I'd definitely investigate. And at least have a look-see at the MC while you're there.

I appreciate all the input. I really do like this car, I am about 200 miles away from the dealer which is not the best thing but I think I am going to take a drive on Monday to go see it in person. As for the M, that is just more money than I want to spend on this car. There are a lot of really great cars that can be had for the 25 to 30k range and the M is among them but I do not think it would be my first choice in that range.

We will see what happens on Monday but I think I'll bring some cash along just in case it is as nice as I hope it is.
