Mismatched dash / console?

So I have carbon leather in my Z4M roadster, titanium silver.

I'm not a big fan of the carbon leather console, don't mind it on the dash. I really don't want to drop $1,500 on wood trim, but the carbon leather just doesn't look like it's holding up well.

I'm 6'3" and 240 #'s, so pretty much every part of my interior that I touch will wear out quicker. It's tough being gentle.

Anyways, I was thinking of purchasing a Z4 graphite console only: http://www.bmwz4roadster.net/dash/4BM_graphit_gr.jpg There is one used in the classified section.

How would that match the interior of a black on black, carbon leather Z4M?

Would it look cheap or out of place? I was hoping it would accent some of the other silver (non-aluminum pieces like the door handles, gauge housing, etc.) or would it be too dark?

My other option would be to buy the graphite piece and have it professional wrapped in leather to match the rest of the car?

Thoughts?

I was even toying with the idea of buying it and painting it to match the exterior of the car in titanium silver???

I would have it professionally done at a body shop or rattle can it with paint from http://www.automotivetouchup.com/ .

Yeah, if I go the wrapping route I would go with professionally done leather, so I can keep the stitching on the side. Maybe even do M stitching.......

Has anyone ever matched a carbon leather dash with an aluminum console?

Just have all the pieces either painted or vinyl wrapped. The quality of vinyl wrap films these days are crazy, I have seen vinyl that looks and feels like leather, suede, aluminum, titanium, carbon fiber, glossy, matte, you name it they have it.

Here's a link to another thread you might be interested in.

So are you looking for wood trim....??

Just wondering what the carbon leather looks like...maybe it might look great in my car?

Why not just do a piano black console trim. That is what most of the individual cars matched with the leather dash piece. It looks super nice IMO and will probably hold up better than leather.

It isn't cheap but they sell on ebay for about $550 for the console only piece.

Would look somewhat like this:

I drove 400+ miles yesterday to buy a black 2008 Z4 coupe VIN #: 4USDU53548LG19752. It had a leather dash and dinged aluminum console. The used car dealer (Ford) couldn't explain the mismatched trim. I'm guessing after reading the above posts it was a mod. But, I missed the above posts before driving there even though I've been surfing the Z4 for about six months getting info for mods and purchase. In addition to the mismatched dash the Z coupe also had a tuff time turning over then the RPMs were idling rough. The dealer said it was normal for the Z coupe bc it hadn't been driven lately. I didn't know this! Not good to hear about the coupes...Needless to say, with "check in hand" I drove 400+ miles home without my new Z.
