should I get an E93 M3 instead of my Z4.

well, I can't decide. I have a Z4 and i might trade her in for the new M3 cabrio

what I'm worried about really is that the M3 is bigger heaver and more power. its more car.

The Z4 is smaller, it will forgive your mistakes. and in my opinion the extra power has a marginal rate of return... if a car is 300HP... 412HP ... or 500HP, how much difference will it practically make. you can only push it for a few seconds at a time anyway.

my Z4 is cheaper, so i can drive it, push it, abuse it. and not feel guilty. but i think if I had the M3 i'm not going to push it as hard because its more expensive.

Then is the M3 really worth the extra money, crappy lease, crappy residual, high MSRP, and hard to bargain the MSRP since the car just came out. which is also bad because its a first year production car. so it still might need tweaking.

but then the M3 is like a super car, people dream of having an M3. so why would I worry about being disappointed.

I like the M3 cabriolet because its a hard top. sometimes I get the feeling like my Z4 makes me look like a flashy a$$hole. at least with the M3 when the top is up it looks more like a respectable regular 3 series.

Is anyone else here considering the new M3.

If you want an M3...don't get the vert. If you want a vert get the Z.

If you are in introvert and wonder what people think of you, then get the M3. I bought my Z4 for myself and all the others can be damned! Why not just get a Nissan Maxima and blend right in to the rest of the conformist crowd.

Sounds to me like the better decision would be to get an E46 3-series or E39 5-series in black, and keep your Z4. You have the sports car when you want it, and if you want to go low-key few things are more understated than those (the ubiquitous black Lincoln Town Car, I think).

out of all the new M3s you want the vert? Dont know how much more it weighs but the coupe is already pretty heavy so the vert is going to be a pig. And from the pictures it looks like a car my mom would drive. If you want a vert stick ot the Z4. If you want the new M3 wait a couple months for dealers to chill on mark ups or wait for a slightly used one. IMHO there not worth 70k. And the vert will be even more. FTL

My sales guy (and friend of the family) is willing to sell me and anyone I send in the M3 for MSRP (maybe even a little lower). PM me if you want his information. I'll even be nice enough to deliver it personally to your location. Just split the gas and tolls with me

This decision is driving me mad,
when i see the M3 I want it, then when i see my Z4 i know I'm going to miss it.

the Z4 is changing in 2010 right? so in 1 1/2 years its going to be an older model. so I don't want to be the guy owning it and taking the depreciation hit. also the buy back from my Z4 lease is too high compared to the market. but still the M3 is so expensive these costs become irrelevant.

if i get the M3 i have to get new winter tires and rims, which I already have for the Z4, plus the higher insurance, ( the z4 is really good with insurance companies, i saw the stats we are better drivers than the m3 crowd :P), plus if I get the M3 its close to the same $$$ as a 911 cabriolet.

yeah the M3 cabriolet is a pig. its heavy you can't make mistakes, can't beat the tight turning radius of the Z. plus there is no way you can make use of all the extra power anyway unless your driving in a straight line.

The new M3 felt like a powerful well handling touring coup when I drove it. I didn't feel like I was missing anything driving home in my Z4M except maybe the back seat. The power and sound of the V8 is great but if I was going to go from the Z4M I would chose a 6 series as I actually enjoyed driving a 650 coupe more the the M3 overall.

Personally, I'd wait for some of the bugs to be worked out with the V8 before jumping in with the new M3. Yeah, you have the latest M-car, but is that what you're really after (i.e. having the latest/greatest)? IMO, enjoy your Z, let other people worry "field test" the new M, and pick it up after it's been wrung out and your Z is paid off.

Nope. But I'm curious, what Z4 do you have exactly? Year, engine, coupe or roadster? Is the Z4 your only car?

I´ve recently had a Honda 06 S2000, an 07 335i e92 and now an 07 Z4 MC. I got the 335i because the S2000 was to raw as a daily driver but the automatic 335i was just not sporty enough so I was never truly happy with it. Don´t get me wrong it´s an awesome GT, but for me the Z4 is a sports car I´m happy to live with as a daily driver.

I have an 2005, 2.5 liter roadster with all the options. yeah its my only car, but i don't need the extra seats at all.

yeah i figured everyone in this forum will say keep the Z. I'm going to try a similar post in an M3 forum. it will probably go the other way there.

Why not just get a 2008 Z4M and save 30K?

If someone offered me a M3 stright up for my Z I would take it in a heartbeat. Then I would sell it for 60K with no miles on it, and get a Z4M and have some good mod money

I've never liked M3 cabs... something about the lopped off roof look that looks weird to me. Same for most cars that have a cab and any other (coupe, sedan) body style; looks weird to me.

I thought about a E92 M3, but the Z4M's driving dynamics coupled with it's uniqueness and price/fun ratio turned me. I am in no hurry to get a E92 M3.

For the E92 M3 in general: Yeah, the V8 sounds good, so does the S54 with some help. I can hardly push the Z4M around, more power (albeit at more weight) will do nothing for me, esp when I will look like every other guy with a M3.
