custom turbo is always an option. Hell, we all knew HPF is working on a kit.

It's not too bad, turbo on my car is a little big (Precision 74mm) so the car has pretty good momentum when boost hits hard. I did have 285/35's on the back not too long ago but dropped down to 275/30 now to get the look I wanted with these wheels. I also drive around on 275/40/17 NT01's quite a bit when I really need it to hook

You must have ridden in a car we've built, lots of people get giggly afterwards

The intake manifold for this one is from Horsepower Freaks, it was Trevor's choice. I would much rather have had an intake manifold of my own on his car but sometimes it's not so beneficial to try and reinvent the wheel. The intake manifold for the S54 is far from complex being that the throttles are on the motor side of the intake manifold. On any future Z4M builds, there's possibilities for something different

Doubtful you'll see a kit but that doesn't mean you can't have something similar!

Thank you everyone for your comments, they are much appreciated. I put everything I have into these builds and each and every one of your comments make me strive for better and better results! It has been a pleasure working with Trevor and his Z4M and I can't wait to see how she performs! Until then, SMILE, Trevor's car is already and there's still lots of updates to come!

Wow, its really coming together fast Shawn!

Just a note to those reading .. this is NOT my car, its my roomates/buddy's .. my car is a Turbo E46 M3 which runs the same ECU and is also tuned for Flex Fuel/E85. But I'm really excited to see how it performs compared to mine, mine is a built engine with a low compression, so I've lost alot of my low end, and its so fast its really only good for the freeway, on the streets, stop light to stop light I just blow the tires off, and it lags a little. Still a blast to drive, but this with the high compression, running on E85 is going to drive just like factory down low and then its going to kick you in the ass when the turbo spools up, which with this manifold, and running E85 will be pretty quickly. Plus it weighs alot less than my E46 M3. So needless to say I'm really anxious to see how it performs.

Shawn, my guess at 400rwhp was extremely conservative, for gas. Here in Cali 91 pump is crap.. I wouldn't tune for more than 89 for any car that will be forced to use Cali 91 pump. On E85 though thats another story.

Thank you for your honest and insightful impression. Now I'm convinced stock compression and a 10psi supercharger is the route for me. Heck, now I don't even want the lower compression VT3-650 kit

I run a 71mm turbo and make 30psi of boost. If I was to drop down to a 6766 or so and run a divided manifold and twin scroll, I think the lag would be much less noticeable. I'm running a crap log manifold (space limitations) and a bottom mount T71 (space limitations).. so I can't do any of the fancy footwork stuff Trevor's getting done. (Divided Manifold, Twin Scroll, Equal Length, Etc)... You have that option though, if you wanted to go custom turbo setup. The GTX35R is also a smaller turbo than mine, but is more efficient, its a reworked GT35R.. so it spools like the smaller GT35R but has more topend being I believe it has a different exhaust housing and one additional blade.

Seriously though while this is a turbo car , all the stuff I mentioned above, including running on E85 is going to really negate alot of the negatives of going turbo as opposed S/C.

Can't wait for the dyno graphs!

I could trade my throttle response for more highway punch, but I didn't know lowering compression would dramatically hurt low-end torque and I'm glad to learn it. I don't want to turn this into a turbo/supercharger thread, so lets end it with this:

I'm very glad someone's doing it on the z4m platform and can't wait to see the results!

I wouldn't be too afraid of a higher compression turbo engine Roffle. I had a 9:5-1 comp. turbo inline six that drove great and managed great drive-ability daily. It felt strong off boost and awesome on. Turbo lag was not noticeable in this arrangement.

It only limits how high your boost can go effectively/safely. In mine, it was at 18lbs for street and pump gas. With my efficient intercooler system I never suffered pre-detonation or heat issues.

I think you meant lower compression turbo engine. I'm actually worried about a lower compression supercharged engine which I was planning to build. There goes the torque off-boost...

My long term plan is always tweaked, so I can concentrate on my final goals with this car and stick to the path to get there

You are doing some killer work out there! The manifold you built for the Z4M is now my desktop background; it's a serious work of art
I used to own a Z3M and love what you guys did with that platform! any interior pics?

Looking forward to the final numbers.

Please keep in mind this will be your own creation, while similar to Trevor's setup, there's many different ways to do similar things. I follow the idea of each and every setup having it's own unique qualities, meaning you'll never see the same exact setup twice. I have lots of visions once I get rolling with a build like this, not hard at all to take a slightly different path. Typically the second or third time you do something it turns out even better, we're going to have a hard time topping Trevor's build, you ready?
