WTB 07-06 M Roadster
Hi Everyone, Iv been following the market for a few months now and its about time to pull the trigger. Im about to start making some offers in the next 10 - 15 days and wanted to see if I could double check with everyone on this forum to see if my offers would be inline. I would like to buy a private sellers 06 <40K for around 21-22K Private seller 07 <40K for around 23-24K If you think think these are reasonable offers can anyone help point me in the direction of a few good Imola Red examples preferably without nav? My ideal car is Imola Red with wood trim and Light Sepang Bronze Nappa leather . Silver is my next choice but all things being equal Im set on red. Iv been looking though autotrader and have my eye on a couple options there. should the private seller route not work, Ill hang on a couple more months for winter to set in and see if the dealers are still hell bent on top dollar but i can got to battle with them if i have to All advice is welcome, Iv wanted an M Roadster for several years but I wont be buying until the right car and deal comes around. I overpaid for my first BMW, went too used on the second and moved to fast on the third to realize my M3 was beat up mechanically by the previous owner. Plus side is I can do alot of DIY on these motors now! |

You'll be waiting years for the prices you want.

Unless you locate the proverbial "Needle in the haystack"....I think you're about 10% shy of where you need to be. With the right seller and some tactful negotiation, you might be able to whittle that variance down to 5%.....that or accept cars with higher mileage. Good luck and I hope you find a deal.

Just purchased a Z4MR in the color that you are looking for but with black interior. I looked for months searching through many different avenues and I did not see anything what you are mentioning in prices. I went with a higher mileage car 06 (85K miles) because it was going to be my "nice day" car and as far as I can see it is mechanically sound. It also helped that it was not that far from my residence as I have found in the past that even if a PPI is done unless you totally know the history of the car you may be in for some surprises. Cosmetically wise it was not to my standard so I am putting some $'s into it to make it look like I desire. For the prices you state for the 06 I found that you will have to double your mileage + - 10K miles. For the 07 with <40k miles you will be looking in the 29-32K price range give or take. IMHO there are factors that will keep the prices higher. They do not make this style any more and there was a limited supply. If you are just looking for an M then most likely both the private sector and dealers know that and the cost will be set accordingly. Unless you find a "barn find" I think you will have to adjust your price range upward if you are looking for something with under 40k miles. Best of luck with your search though.

Like to drive? There's a dealer in Poway, CA that has a '06 MR Silver/Grey - Red, 20K miles, asking $27.9. Tell them roadster season is coming to end and you're ready to deal. You probably won't get it for want you're wanting to spend, but you'd likely get it for what I recommended. Cash Deal of course!

wow this is great thank you for replying so fast! this is good info to have so perhaps if I up my cash spend by about 1.5-2K it may be getting me in the car i want. I don't want to call anyone and be lowballing or offending them.
Im more than happy to make a drive for this car, iv give myself about a 1500 mile radius for the search. that would be about a two day return home so 250-300 in gas and i use some hilton points along the way. The right seller and timing will be key. Whats motivating this seller? Did they buy this car new cash and now the guys at the country club giggle as they pass by in their new Porsche? (this a thought of motivation not an invitation to debate wether the M is better than a Porsche LOL)Time for a new ride but the wife says sell your other toy first? I think there are some people that want to sell but just don't want to get jacked by the dealers trade in price and would be happy with a 2-3K over trade. I needed a larger car and traded in my M3 for 18K and it was on the lot the next day for 28999. I know the dealers have plenty of room to play but don't seem to want to play ball plus Im not the worlds best negotiator. One thing that seem to be very common is that im seeing these cars sit on one lot for about 2 months the got to auction and sit on another lot. Im not sure exactly what this means but im guessing that dealers are asking more than the market is willing to pay? I think iv looked at the silver one in Poway, im not too keen on the red interior but it could grow on me thanks again everyone! Last edited by Mcargo; 09-15-2012 at 04:21 PM.. |

Northwest Preowned Center (affiliated with BMW Northwest) in Tacoma, WA has a 07 in that color combo. 41.5K asking $31. If it wasn't IR I might have looked into it myself.

Good luck. I took a super quick drive in it right after they got it on the lot, but didn't check into in detail. I did note it had the mounting brackets for the OEM windscreen but no windscreen.

Well, having never driven an M it seemed awesome! Seriously, it did drive and track well, very responsive, reasonably clean overall. I think it may have had new rotors...
I would go give it another look over but am out of the country for another week. I could give you some local indie shops if you want to have it 3rd party checked. Shawn Hamlin was the CA I talked to there. |
