I did that very thing with my Z4 for the short period between its arrival on 5 October, and when I stored in in early December. I live in Canada and winter storage is generally seen as mandatory if you want your car to remain in pristine condition for many years (which I do).
The only issue I had with my Z4 was the persistent requests from my kid to put the roof down when I drove him to schol in it each day, even if it was 39 or 40 F outside. The trunk has lots of usable space for daily needs, unless you're heading to Costco to buy supplies for the next six months or something. Other than that, buy it and enjoy!

been a daily driver for 1 whole day! (picked up my Z4 on saturday)
I'm loving it so far. We'll see how I feel about it in traffic after a few weeks. But I'm already in love with the car. The auto-dim feature on the rear-view has already made me immensely happy. The extra horsepower over my last ride also made it a little more fun as well! |

Been driving my roadster since 2007... everyday.. rain and snow..
No problem so far.. except once in a while when you need to drive an extra friend or pick up someone along the way. Trunk is good.. it is small, but even with my sound system in there, there is still alot of usable space. |

I've been DDing since August of 2007 (except during the winters when there is snow on the ground).
The one complaint I have is it really sucks when I have to put it away for the winter and drive a truck Other than that it has been great for road trips and everything like that.

The Z4 is a good DD considering its capabilities. Nice stereo, good climate control, decent ride, good sized trunk. If you don't need to carry more than 2 people, its a good one.

I don't have a roadster, but I daily drive my coupe....even in snow. I have Continental DSW tires and all is well! Just need to have a break in the weather to wash off all the crud! Orbital and good products will bring it back to sharp!

thanks for all the great input!! i am excited to join the Z community! it is truly sad to see my e92 go though.
1 more question. i remember reading somewhere that when the top is up the trunk can be exteded to be larger is this true? also there is no pass through from the trunk to the cabin correct?

Pass Through - No there is not a pass through from the trunk through to the cab. Trunk space - The roadster has a tray which the top lies down into when the top is down, when you have the top up there are two levers on each side of the tray that you twist to increase your storage space a few inches across the top of the inner trunk. I believe this is standard on Z4 Roadsters. There is a picture of the lever assembly at the link below. http://www.zpost.com/forums/showthre...runk+expansion

simple twist...you'd be surprised what you can put in with the tray in the "up" position
sometimes you just need that extra inch

I have daily driven my M Roadster since March 09. No problems. I mean sometimes I would like a bigger/plush car but I have no issues as long as you don't need to carry more than one passenger.

The Z4 is a great daily driver. However, one bit of advice - ditch the run flat tires. The better ride is worth it, particularly for a DD.

Get DD. With the extra inch in the trunk you will not be able to drop the top. When we go on a trip, we pack the car as if the top is down , That way we can always drop the top when we want. I am talking about Z4 from 03-08. Don't try this info with the newer ones.

I've daily driven a Z3 or Z4 for the past 3.5 years. They were my only vehicles at their respective times.
People say "but you've only got one extra seat, and a little trunk." So I say "Yea, but when was the last time someone rode in your backseat, and you used all the space in your trunk". They say "Well, I can carry lots of things when I need too." And I say "yea, but do you really need all that stuff?" And they say, "Yea, I've got kids!". And I say "exactly". |
